NEWS: SHOSHIMIN: How to become Ordinary Anime Gets 2nd Season in April

Looking forward to season 2 and how Kobato and Osanai will interact with their new love interests before mysteries inevitably bring them back together.

Also never expected to hear Yume Miyamato as a gyaru-esque character.

I really enjoyed Shoshimim, but I might just leave it with what we currently have, as I honestly think that's the best conclusion to Kobato & Osanai's relationship you could hope for, certainly in the former's case. It lacks perfect closure & feels anticlimactic, but in a way that's true to a lot of failing relationships.

I honestly have a weird relationship with this show, as while I think Osanai is easily one of the most compelling & nuanced characters I've come across in a show in years, I'm probably not in alignment with how the author views her. He seems to be treating Kobato & Osanai as distorted mirror images of each other, while I view the former as pretty normal kid trying to reign in his worst tendencies, while the latter is the kind of manipulative sociopath crime book writers dream of.

She spent most of the finale cheerfully describing how she manipulated others into framing someone without leaving evidence to back to her, then when confronted immediately pulls out a sob story, before deflecting responsibility by jabbing at Kobato's weak points rather than fully confront the gravity of her actions. Bloody masterful tactics for a villain in a psychological thriller, not so much a counterpoint to a teen trying not to be a smug asshole. Even her scene in the library felt chilling with what we know about her. Pray for that poor student council kid.

Presumably that's not the take I'm supposed to walk away with, but I've long since stopped trusting anything Osanai says or does, so this finale feels like a solid conclusion. I don't need to see Kobato & Osanai to slowly reconcile. Their issues are not the same to me.

Okay, so... there are currently 5 volumes out right now. It's still going. The first season covered the 1st and 2nd volumes, and the 2nd season will cover the 3rd & 5th volumes. I wonder what they're up to by skipping the 4th volume.

Interesting... So this gets an almost immediate sequel but HYOUKA is still left in the dust with seemingly no continuation in sight. I've heard the latter doesnt really have enough material for a S2 but this still kinda hurts. Well that aside, I do like the direction they're heading with this series so I'll stick around for the next season.

...As for Osanai... while she is an interesting character she is dangerous and toxic to be around. I kind of hope they do not get back together because Kobato is better of avoiding her entirely. The last episode confirmed this in that it seems like Osanai very much does not regret her actions in any way and will not own up to them either.

Sadly, I suspect that this will be a conventional plot where Kobato and Osanai get back together.

The main reason I want to see more is to get an explanation of why the van is abandoned and set on fire.
