I STILL dont get how games can sell millions despite the highest in this chart just selling 30k TOPS.

Which games are you talking about? The only games that sell millions are usually first party Nintendo games. It's safe to say Touhou, Astro Bot, and Ace Attorney are not going to be selling millions. |

Obviously not! I meant in general, even big heavy hitters like Zelda and Mario even the highest selling in this list just pop with a millions sold despite only selling 30k. What gives? |

These are their "tail" sales - their "front" sales were big and/or started years ago ~80% of total sales tend to be in the first few weeks of release |

Aren't these just physical sales? Digital ones bought directly from Sony's store or from Nintendo won't be on the list right?

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's total sales to date this week were 5,989,943.
Jan 1-7, 2024: 5,662,416 Jan 2-8, 2023: 5,083,147 Jan 3-9, 2022: 4,356,115 Jan 4-10, 2021: 3,575,063 Jan 6-12, 2020: 2,725,304 Jan 7-13, 2019: 2,070,890 Jan 1-7, 2018: 1,215,599 Jul 3-9, 2017: 563,495 (~2 months after release) Six or eight hundred thousand a year (11-14K a week) adds up! To be exact, the first weeks of 2018 and 2024 are 313 weeks apart; the difference between those two total sales numbers is 4,446,817, for a weekly average of 14,207. Though granted, MK8DX's sales in Japan have the most absurdly long tail of any game I've ever seen. (Looking at these numbers, I guess it's finally slowing down, as the Switch approaches the end of its lifespan. Now I'm tempted to make a spreadsheet to find average-per-week for each year…) And of course, like enurtsol said, it's much more at the start. For a recent example of a big Nintendo title's debut, see the first week of Tears of the Kingdom's sales.
