Feel like asking them about Macross on home video and the rest of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, while you're at it?

After such a long period of silence, this is a very welcome announcement. And again, thank you to TWiA for the column that I'm assuming sparked this.

If they were "fully committed" it would be done already. It's not a long series. It shouldn't take 3 years+ to do this. It shouldn't have even taken 1 year. I have experience in this. I'd take no issue if they just said "committed" but they clearly are not "fully" committed.

I thought I was over it, but now I'm suddenly annoyed all over again at Crunchyroll's buyout of Right Stuf/Nozomi...

I genuinely think it's the single-worst thing that's happened to the domestic industry since the bust years of Bandai and Geneon closing up shop.

That is fair. Assuming backer rewards go out like they say, then somebody was working on it, but they didn't bother to say anything until prompted by somebody they couldn't ignore. It has the air of "we're doing this out of obligation not desire" about it.

Would fully believe there is one person in Sony's home video team (since CR no longer has their own) working on the discs, with perhaps one other person working on the merch. Clearly this project is not a priority for them, nor do I think the bad press will light that much of a fire under them. It's not like their PR response answered any of the questions people had beyond "is this alive?" Plus, I doubt the majority of people who use CR for seasonal anime or One Piece heard about this.
When the RightStuf buyout happened I assume it was to have RightStuf's team take over the CR Store given that RighStuf was pretty well-liked and known for good-quality work and the CR Store was the opposite. However, now I assume it was just to kill the competition and get their warehouse in IA. After the merger I tried the CR Store again and like usual, got dented manga. Never had that issue with RS. :/

I hope they're finally able to properly release it.

You know, I backed this and didn't really keep up with the updates because RightStuf has absolutely earned my trust. After Sony did its hostile takeover of RightStuf (it's not a hostile takeover, but it might as well have been), I really should have been more critical of how the Kickstarter was handled, considering that I pretty much assumed the ARIA movies, Macoss Frontier and Delta, and the remaining seasons of Zetsubou-sensei wouldn't get released over here under Sony's reign.

That and the merger with Funimation that left so many shows without a way to legally stream them for zero reason.

Man, remember the golden days of the mid-2010's when you had actual passionate & candid folks like Victoria, Miles, Nate, Evan, etc serving as the front face of Crunchyroll? Now we just get the usual faceless engagement posts, and where you literally have to build up a campaign that gets noticed on news sites for them to respond with chatgpt generated sounding goop.
At least there's signs they are now moving forward. Plus, it was fun watching Justin Sevakis frequently go off at their bs. I particularly loved him seeing the claim that they needed to figure out file sizes and splits before getting approvals, by simply doing the math on the fly (Quote - "4x DTS-MA tracks, 2 of em 5.1, 2 of em 2.0. Generous video bitrate (~23 Mbps). 9 eps/disc. That gives you over an hr of extra space on disc 3 for extras, more than you'll need." If only he told them that two years ago.
I wonder if we'll ever get a full story exactly what happened here. No doubt Crunchyroll cannibalizing Rightstuf disrupted things greatly, but I also wouldn't be at all surprised that the staff, realizing that Nozomi would be disbanded/everyone getting fired the moment the ks ended, just decided to purposely delay things until CR remembered about it. At this stage it's hard to say what's incompetence & what's willful neglect.

No no, the buyout was a good thing; I've saved so much money now that I'm not buying anime anymore since Crunchyroll's store is a steaming pile of garbage.

Yeah, I wasn't nearly as concerned about the delay as some people seemed to be, since I've yet to back a Kickstarter that didn't significantly overshoot its original estimated date. Plus this campaign started while the plague was still a major thing, so I figured that everything had gotten pushed back from day one. In retrospect I should have paid closer attention once CR got their dirty claws into things.

Yeah, that's definitely part and parcel with it. It's still utterly absurd that the FTC let that deal go through. Exhibit A on why you need both strong consumer protection laws, and regulatory bodies willing to enforce them.

Heh, I remember back in the day I felt like a lot of Funi's publicity felt kind of fake and cutesy. Now I'd absolutely kill for that over that mess of drivel in the update post.

I mean you're not wrong. I've cut way back over the past year or so. Every time I buy things from their store I have to hold my nose.

Listen,I know that "Dirty Pair's" a popular anime, and people have been waiting a long time for this. I have, too. What's needed here is patience. It's likely the dub will be released one of these days. I've waited a long time for the "Dirty Pair" TV series to get an English dub like the rest of you. I'm not yet ready to go crazy and go after Crunchyroll,Right Stuff, and Kickstarter like they're Valley Forge or the Bastille. It may be just the company hit a few snags.
Let's just wait and hear what they have to say and then act accordingly. There's no reason to go half-cocked,just because we haven't heard anything for four months. Again,I've waited a long time for this. It won't hurt us to wait a little longer or until we have more info over what's been going on.

This. It’s probably industry clearance bullcrap.
Could be… ‘Hi Japanese office, could you please confirm if we can use this bit of key art or music?’ Weeks go by as that email pings around the Japanese office without a response until approval is finally received.
