Can't seem to find anything on the official website about it. Is the "TV Ver." exclusive to western audiences?

I was assuming it’s the same as when Crunchyroll split the Digimon Tri films into episodes. That was Western exclusive, I believe. |

The show produced as a tv-anime, which later got changed to movie format, is getting a western release as a tv-anime? Color me shocked, who could seen that coming.

The fact that anime studios are getting more willing to double dip do stuff like this with their movies really gives me some small hope that Haikyu will get a proper final season considering there's no way to adapt the rest of the series in one movie.
This series seems so Netflix-y that I'm surprised Crunchy picked it up though. |

18? Do you mean 8? Actually, I don't see a source for the episode count yet, but 18 seems way off. |

For fans of the series who can't watch the movie, this is great!

Iirc some early jp press releases had it listed as tv-anime. This is some conjecture on my part now but think about it. Movie 1 was 2hours, I assume movie 2 will also be around 2hs which give or take gives 10 episodes worth of content. Now they announce it will air as a tv-anime existing out of 18** episodes, that's 8 eps of new footage. Movie 2 was delayed to this friday due to movie quality improvement* and they will also magically have that extra content ready when those new eps will air? Lol. So that leaves it to be it was always a tv-anime and the movies they shown are just recap movies, they just switched the order of release so they could make pretty bs pr statements. *They confirmed they finished work on movie 2 last week. ** Also assuming that 18 ep count is actually correct. |

If the episodes are half the length of a regular episode (i.e., 12 minutes per episode), 18 episodes sounds about right for two movies. I guess we'll have to wait for an official announcement or when Crunchyroll starts streaming the series.

I did some research and found a couple things... First, it looks like the second movie will also be two hours (listing with runtime here). Second, both the animation studio and the producer who did the adaptation's planning have worked with unusual release strategies before. Production +h previously animated The Orbital Children -- released as two films first, then as an ONA series. The producer who did the planning (Arai Shuuhei) also worked on Digimon Adventure tri., six films later turned into a two-cour series, as well as the 2021 Prince of Tennis sequel movie, which apparently has two different versions. I agree with you on the 18-episode series being the initial plan. The producer(s) probably decided this would be the most financially successful way to distribute the project. I'm not in love with this strategy, but it's ultimately a reflection of the producers, not the animators, writers, et cetera. That being said, the person in charge of the composition and screenplays for DDDD is Yoshida Reiko. She had the same roles for Violet Evergarden (which also has an unorthodox structure), so I'm hopeful she's able to make it work. |
