Similar to Hideaki Anno's attempts to bury the ADV and Funimation dubs of Evangelion, it seems Sunrise wants to make this new voice cast the only way to experience SEED. A real shame.

My one complaint with the new English dub, is Lacus' name prnunciation. That, and how Kira's last name is pronounced.

I absolutely despise the way the new dub pronounces literally everything. It’s like they decided to pronounce every name or term the exact opposite way of how the Canadian dub pronounced them. It’s disorienting.

Awesome to see the NYAV Post cast coming back(save for Shinn's previous VA). Hope that someday either Gundam.Info or Crunchyroll gets the HD Remaster English Dub for both shows.

We truly lost with this new voice cast, SEED fans. I feel like they are actually trying to antagonize fans of the old dub. So fun for what is a celebration of the series.

Man I miss the old dub. I will be watching this in subtitles. The new dub is lacking in a lot of ways.

I think it's a big shame they lost the Shinn Asuka VA from the Destiny redub, but I suppose that would've been done nearly 7 years ago now, and it seems that actor isn't active in anime or voice acting much anymore. Loved watching the movie in Japanese, I'll definitely check it out in English dub once it hits Blu-ray!

It's exactly how they were instructed to pronounce the name by Sunrise and Bandai, as those are the correct and intended pronunciations. The Ocean dub is a 2003/2004 anime dub, and the Japanese side didn't have anywhere near as much involvement or proof checking back then, so making mistakes like that wasn't uncommon.
Even if you have gotten used to pronouncing it one way and don't want to change that, at least understand why it is the way it is, and don't let that stuff bother you. I've spent over 15 years saying LAH-CAHS and that's not going to change, but when the new dub says LAH-COOS because that's what Japan told them to do, I shrug and move on with life haha. I don't condemn the dub and the people who worked on it for it!

Sunrise isn't trying to bury anything; that's your own headcanon on the matter. The old dub wouldn't realign with the HD REMASTER version and by that point Ocean wasn't exactly as prolific as they were in the past and voice actors went inactive. Starting over was a safer option. I don't get why people are reacting to this now when the redub has been available for YEARS now.

Because the new dub version is the correct way things are supposed to be pronounced, at least according to the new dub staff. They had oversight from Sunrise themselves and the ENG Gundam experts. Nostalgia glasses are getting in peoples way.

You realize that like HALF the original cast has been INACTIVE from dubbing for quite a while now, right? It's not like you can just call them up to pop on down to the studio to reprise roles they haven't touched in two decades like they can in Japan. Some don't want to do voice work anymore, some can't (you'd be surprised what two decades can do to a voice). You keep squawking about this like it'll change anything, and it won't. You need to learn to let it go because the Ocean team is never coming back.
The fandom's kneejerk reaction to this is like someone backed over the family dog and managed to take grandma out in the process. This new dub can't hurt you, but people are acting like it's affecting their lives on a personal level. Don't like it, then don't watch it. It's not that hard. Save the film for others to enjoy. But the attacks on the voice actors, ADR staff, etc and whatnot that people have been launching really need to stop. A lot need to step outside and touch some grass. The staff didn't phone this dub in (or the last ones for that matter), but people sure seem to think so. They forget that Sunrise is one hell of a micromanager, so literally every tiny tweak, change, shift in something had to be approved.
The armchair critics blasting pronunciation like they know how to pronounce fictitious names in English is utterly laughable. You're literally arguing against the creators of the show. I hate to say it, but if they say names should be pronounced this way, well that's how they're to be pronounced. Ocean didn't have as much oversight in the past with things which is why some were they way they were.
It's also funny because there are other shows out there that pronounce names in the dub differently from their English spellings. I know I cite GITS SAC a lot in this instance, but Paz and Borma, for example aren't pronounced the way they're spelled.

You were never going to get the OG Ocean cast anyway. The recent feature ANN did for the premiere made it abundantly clear that there was zero intent on ever getting any of the original cast back, even if just for the new movie crew or voice cameos.

That's an excuse and a really flimsy one at that. People called the Persona 5 dub out on that flimsy excuse too. Given Sheh stated that the dub was done within a few months in the ANN Freedom premiere piece (all 98 episodes of both series) and wasn't released all at once (or at all, really, until 3 years later), they had no chance for fan feedback and given the first 7 minutes of the dub, they didn't take any of it into consideration for Freedom either.
And yes, people in charge CAN be wrong regarding pronunciation especially if their primary language isn't the same thing as that piece of media is being translated too. Its how we got all those English-dubs-dubbed-in-Japan for a period of time that botched pronunciation despite being handled by those in charge.

When Sunrise wants a dub to be buried, they treat it like the OG Movie Trilogy or ZZ's Hong Kong dub: they bar it from being released again. The fact that SEED and Destiny's were re-released implies they aren't that verboten.
That said, the same's true of Evangelion. The original dub is on the newest discs. I'm not sure Khara had a grudge against that specific version, as the reality is that they commissioned new dubs in a tonne of languges for the show's Netflix launch. Plus, the core of that cast were allowed to come back for Amazon's Rebuild dubs. That isn't really the case here. I don't see how the original actors ever play these characters again. It also has to be said that this needless division is unique to the English fandom. AFAIK, the HD remasters weren't dubbed into other languages, so Freedom dubs are likely going to default to bringing back as much of their local casts as possible.

.
The Lacoose pronunciation does seem to be a Sunrise demand. Some of the people who attended the LA premiere mentioned that the interpreters for the Japanese guests said it that way. That's not how an English speaker would normally read a name written like that, nor is it how it's pronounced in Japanese (the screening was the Japanese version ...) so that sounds like they were told to say it that way. You apparently had the Japanese guest pronounce her name as you'd expect, just to hear the translator say Lacoose ...
Sunrise does not seem to be the best at gauging foreign reception to things. The limited theatre push in Canada suggests they had no idea these shows were really popular here. They were originally only planning a single night sub-only screening despite the fact that most major cities had completely sold out weeks ahead of release. Heck, the ad on this website still says that.

I remember when the Ocean dub came out 20 years ago and everyone complained that Lacus’s name wasn’t “Lux” like in the fansubs.

New cast with Lizzie Freeman, Alejandro Saab, Zeno Robinson & Ama Lee seem really great. I prefer the modern dub by NYAV Post over the cheesy old Ocean dub, I think its much higher quality. So I look forward to watching this on blu-ray or streaming, I haven't been to a theater in about 10 years. I'm done with theaters.

I didn't know he stopped working as a voice actor but it does seem that way. I guess his role as Laurent Thierry in Great Pretender sequel will be recast, we will see.

Wait, so it isn't pronounced "Lay-cus"?
