End of an era. Rooster Teeth had it's share of problems, undeniably, but I hope all the talent can find new and stable work in the aftermath of this. They're good people who are passionate about what they do
I don't know how much of this is WB's fault or a consequence of Rooster Teeth's own internal problems (which may very well be tied to WB anyway), but regardless, Zaslav sucks |

Part of me thinks this should have happened a while ago given all the horror stories from workers there and the revelation that RWBY was never profitable, part of me thought they would get that last season of RWBY out before winding down.
As it stands, the IP is for sale and whoever buys it will probably be better off rebooting it from scratch. |

I'd normally be in full agreement as I've always felt Red vs Blue was their one claim to fame, but Discovery has been a cancer when it comes to mismanaging, buying out, then cancelling anything they touch. If you're a content creator or give any sort of crap about your company/workers/projects then it's been clear for around a decade now that you're at risk of getting the carpet ripped out from under you the moment you start dealing with Discovery. |

Unfortunately the problems that ultimately felled Rooster Teeth were around long before any Acquisition by Warner/Discovery. I can't speak for the current employees, but I have worked with and know several that started mid 2000s and left around 2015. At that point they were already well into creating videos for the twittersphere and not what the fansbase wanted. The rest.. well is history. |

It may be officially ending now, but RT died a long time ago.

WB was on a retrenchment spree a few years ago I would assume that this was part of it. Surprised they took this long.

What does this means for rwby? Are they going have to sell the ip to a other company for them to continue the show? I am crossing my fingers hope so I don't want to see my favorite show rwby get canceled.

Variety's article on the closure claims Rooster Teeth hadn't been profitable in a decade. It goes without saying, but that suggests their problems long predate Zaslav. This is an example of a company that grew beyond its means. Rooster Teeth started off as a couple of friends recording goofy voice overs of video game footage. It dies as a serious attempt at being a media production/distribution company. |

I think the creepiest part of this news is that allegedly the people working on RT found out about it through social media.
Idc at this point if you liked or not RWBY, or you think is the worst thing that happened to anime in america or any other stupid crap, people lost their jobs and it wouldn't surprised me if this happened because of a mix between bad management from RT's side, and David Zaslav's obsession with canceling and deleting a lot of media from WB for the sake of a tax write off. |

Those first few seasons of Red vs. Blue were absolutely seminal to my neophyte Internet days. I know that same group only really exists in name only now, but it's still a shame to see them go.

I haven't watched RWBY since like season 3 and the series went downhill. Outside of that, the only other thing I remember watching was Red VS Blue back when it first aired and then it also went downhill eventually as Rooster Teeth became more corporate and less "some friends getting together and making videos"

RWBY the show should theoretically be fine. RT was looking for partners to help continue the show. WB will be essentially doing the same since they're looking to sell the IP too The only concern is if the same people will be hired back to work on it again. Presumably yes, because hiring old people back is usually more cost-effective and takes less time than finding totally new people. But as with a lot of things, it's uncertain. |

Woah, what? That's kind of shocking. It had the look of a low-budget indie show that had the right mix of quality and luck to go viral, to the point of getting a Crunchyroll knock-off series, even. How in the world did they manage to never even break even? |

Do you think Crunchyroll would have been shut down by now if WB hadn’t sold them to Funimation?

No they probably would’ve merged it with their other streaming services or some shit.
