Wow, now I feel like buying the RE4 remake. I kept thinking it was impossible to surpass the original game considering how many times I replayed that game.

I guess year of release doesn't matter if Persona 5 Royal is winning awards in 2023, just that it was one of the most popular games in 2023 still.

I played the original game numerous times and even went back to it after having played the remake numerous times. And aside from some minor nitpicksit shoves the original out of the door.

I think it’s nomination accounts for it’s wide release in late 2022 but yeah.

As expected of CCFF7R to sell greatly on PS.

Year of release does matter as the article left out the full explanation (but you could figure that out due to the deadlines listed in the other categories as the PlayStation Awards has a set period for entries every year), which is:
"Awarded to the top five titles chosen by our users in the Japan / Asia regions. The title candidates are directly taken from the top 30 titles released between October 2022 and September 2023, ranked by the total number of hours played in the Japan and Asia region."
Even though P5R already sold greatly on PS4 back in 2019, the PS5 version (PS Awards only counts PS sales/metrics obviously) was able to make it into the top 30 (no surprise given the games length), and because of that, PS users who still only have P5R on PS4 could just boost the voting for P5R on PS5 for reasons.

I forgot P5R got a PS5 version. I just always associated it as a 2019 game. One of the benefits of company re-re-rereleasing games over and over again, I guess.

I wouldn't go that far. The remake is fun, but the original still has more content and better writing and doesn't suffers from a lot of issues with modern game design.

The writing being more cringe does not make it better nor does the obnoxious padding particularly in the castle section.

The original game
- had tank controls
- did not let you play with the Japanese dub
- balance issues i.e. Krauser cheese
- Ashley segments were one big Escort Mission that required you to not only avoid having an enemy carry Ashley off but also required you to keep her healed if she took damage.
- cut content
The remake has “some” issues but let’s not pretend that the original game didn’t have it’s own. I also laugh at the idea that remake has issues typical of modern game design when Old School RE fans would’ve said the same thing about the original game in 2004.
