About Samurai Flamenco I remember some people predicting the twist behind Gotoh's girlfriend. The thing is spoiler[how the heck did he write himself in action scenes?!]

Magi is decidedly not worth watching, unless you like stuff that ends on gigantic huge cliffhangers that go nowhere since Assplex decided to abandon the IP despite it printing them money.

The highlight of this list for me is Patema Inverted, what feels like a YA novel (that mix of harsh dystopia and forbidden romance) turned into a nicely-paced sci-fi adventure anime film. One of the most imaginative settings and premises I've seen in any story. Yasuhiro Yoshiura is a pretty underrated director in general IMO.

Kyousogiga and Non Non Biyori are two of my all time faves. The 1st Log Horizon season is good fun, but I definitely dropped off on the second. Kill La Kill was my Trigger introduction.

Yoshiura's more recent Sing a Bit of Harmony is a wonderful film that I love so much, it truly does feature the cutest ever AI uprising. Anyone who likes Patema Inverted or his earlier Time of Eve should check it out. I'm pretty sure it's streaming on Crunchyroll these days (at least in the UK it is, anyway.) |

I love what I've seen/read of the *monogataris, but on the animation front, I don't think I ever made it through all of the second season because it is a lot of work to watch with its maximum SHAFTness and my attempts always stall out.
I was very late to the Kyousougiga train, but Kill la Kill and Samurai Flamenco are enduring favorites. A Lull in the Sea I remember being pretty enjoyable, though it predates me latching onto Mari Okada's name as a stamp of quality. Golden Time was fine (and the college setting was a definite plus), but it had the unenviable task of following Toradora, which still sets a higher bar for me. Outbreak Company was definitely a good little adventure, though it kind of blends into GATE and I have to remember to separate them out. Watched Magi and Beyond the Boundary as well, which both had some good parts, but left me pretty neutral. Haven't seen any of the rest, even Princess Kaguya, which I've had sitting on my shelf for years. This was also about the time I hit a lull in my anime viewing for a few years, at some point I need to make a list of titles to go back to from this period. |

A lot of these I haven't seen, the ones I have
Log Horizon: I saw about half of season 1 back when it was on Hidive. It was enjoyable, I put it on hold and never got back to it. Kill La Kill: While I didn't enjoy this as much as Gurren Lagann, it's a solid title. It's one of those Anime that embraces being animated. Kyousougiga; Really great show, very heart-warming and visually appealing. spoiler[The scene in the house with the long take that shows the family, is one of my all-time favourite moments in Anime.] Samurai Flamenco: It's good, but I preferred it more when it was spoiler[a grounded homage to Superheroes, before becoming a straight-up superhero show.] Monogatari: Cool series, too large to talk about in a single paragraph. Patema Inverted: Seen it, but can't remember fudge all about it Madoka Magica: Great soundtrack and art direction. |

I wish I enjoyed Kill la Kill. And Gurenn Lagann, which I also bounced off of. There's just something about that brand of zany that I do not jive with. I can appreciate them as quality, but man- not for me.
Log Horizon is weird. I don't dislike it, and it had some interesting ideas...but it got stuck in the bureaucracy and I had a hard time maintaining interest. I remember thinking highly of White Album 2 and Golden Time, but I've never had any desire to go back and watch again. Maybe that emotional damage? I do need to watch Kyousougiga though. I keep forgetting. |
