Penguindrum sure has a strange dubbing history with Sentai. I look forward to the movies.

I suppose John Swasey thought these actors were better suited for the part. It's the only reason I can think of for a full recast, given that nearly everyone from the original Steven Foster dub is still available. It's still a shame, because while the dub was not that great(then again none of the dubs for Ikuhara's show have been), the casting choices for me were all ideal.

While I will miss Maggie Flecknoe as Masako, this a vastly better English cast than the one for the tv series. My question if wheter Sentai is redubbing the series with this new cast and releleasing it on BD or if they are going to let that licence expire and move on.
Penguindrum tv series is a masterful and fantastic anime, and I would love for Sentai to give it a non Steven Foster dub with this new cast. The show deserves that and a nice BD release.

I purchased the bluray and absolutely love the new cast. I actually liked the cast from the full series, especially Ringo’s and Himari’s voices, but the new dub has some fantastic performances.
I am surprised they changed the cast though. I think some main characters from the series now voice side characters. The only character who would need a voice change is Kanba’s.

There is one exception to that rule IMO, and it's Sarazanmai. That dub was fantastic in terms of both performances and script localization. I was honestly hoping FUNiroll would get Re:cycle so the same voice director/lead script adapter could get to take a stab at Penguindrum.
But I'm pleased it sounds like Sentai did it right this time. Here's hoping the series can get a re-release (and redub) as well.

So glad Penguindrum got a new cast. I might actually be able to watch the movie dubbed now! I haven’t watched the movies yet and I’m glad they’ll be available stateside.

Sarazanmai dub was good from what I remember, every other Ikuhara dub just felt so off. I didn't think Penguindrum TV & Yurikuma Arashi were the worst but they still felt off in tone at times. I first started watching Utena dubbed and hated the show so I dropped it, years later I gave the show another chance subbed and funny enough it became one of my top 10 favorite anime. I really dislike the Utena dub as I almost missed one of the best anime.
So I'm curious how the new Penguindrum dub will turn out.

Penguindrum was the most dumbest crap I've ever watched and to this day i do not understand how it has any Fandom or more than just that 1 Anime.

I'm not done with the movies yet (still working my way through the second), but I'd say the dub of Re:cycle is watchable? Not as good as Sarazanmai but nothing like Utena's at least. (which I wish would get redubbed someday)
Sadly I think Penguindrum TV and Yurikuma were more victims of circumstances. Penguindrum TV was one of Sentai's earliest efforts, and Yurikuma was done back when simuldubbing was still a fairly new process for FUNimation. Had either of them been done later on, I imagine they would've been stronger than what we initially got.
