Right now, it is the highest rated in animenfo with a 9.4
For those that have seen it, is this the best anime series you have ever seen? If not, what is a better anime series? For me, I stayed up till 5 AM to see it. It was so good, so memorable. Basically, it's an addiction after you seen the first 4-5 episodes. And yes, for me, it is the best anime series I ever seen. And many people who seen it seems to put it very high on their list. It's an epic/fantasy adventure that will take you into the heart of another world. The story and the plot is the best part of this wonderful anime that is not only captivating but breath-taking. It's simply BRILLIANT. for those that haven't seen it, give it a try if you like a serious anime that make you think a little (the animation, sound, characters development are top-notched). The best part is that the second viewing will be as much if not more pleasureable than the first viewing. for those that have seen it, is this your favorite anime? if not, which is better? |

It's great but not the best. The best would be a show that appealed to everyone. JK is good but I have seen shows I have loved more then that.

No it's not. There is no "best anime ever". No one has the right to give a certian anime that title.
![]() It's a very good series, probably one of the best of it's genre, but people have different opinions. EDIT: My best anime is either Utena *yes, even with all the annoying repetitive animation and stuff, but the movie was AWESOME* or ... Full Metal Alchemist I guess. FMA has really grown on my more then I expected it too. You also can't forget the Miyazaki films. Last edited by littlegreenwolf on Sat Jan 17, 2004 5:18 am; edited 1 time in total |

everybody is entitled to their opinion. And my opinion (along with a lot of people who seen it judging from the reviews on animenfo) is that 12 kokuki is the best series anime ever. Notice that I used the word 'series' so Miyazaki films do not apply. Though if I have to choose, I would choose 12 kokuki over Spirited away, Princess Mononoke or Castle in the Sky (just to show you how much I love 12 kokuki). Anyway, its genre is 'fantasy, adventure, drama, action, some political intrigue." It's the best fantasy I've ever seen. It's the best drama I've ever seen. It's the best adventure anime I've ever seen. The action is good, but not the best. Overall, it's the best anime I ever seen. I heard that it is base on a popular Japanese novel. It's 68 episodes long (fansubs to only 43). It is licensed and the first 16 or so episodes are available. The fourth volume will be out soon. It's call 'The Twelve Kingdoms" in English DVD. to find out more, go there: read the users reviews on the left hand side of the screen. http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,880,rmksij,12_kokuki.html I urge anyone who like a SERIOUS anime to check this out. It requires some patient but the wait is well worth it. (about Full Metal Alchemist......I seen it, I like it, but it's nothing compare to 12 Kokuki. I would watch 12 kokuki for the fifth times before I watch Full Metal Alchemist for the second time. It's that good.) about GTO, I seen it, I love it. I would see 12 kokuki the 3rd time before seeing GTO again. (p.s. the live-action is good too). |

You do not have to tell me how good it is. I've seen the first two volumes. It was nice, but I was able to controll myself about seeing the next ep. There are other shows out there that just appeal to me more. And the amount of times you've watched a show doesn't prove the show is the greatest thing in the world. I can assure you I've probably watched Sailormoon more times then you've watched Kokki, but that doesn't mean it's the best show around. Oh yeah, I'm not sure if it's true or not, but I heard that there MAY be more episodes. I heard the animation company is just waiting for the author of the books to put out another couple of books for more material to work with. This is just something I heard, don't take it as fact. Oh yeah, best fantasy anime I have ever seen is Escaflowne, and I haven't seen anything to change my mind about that yet. |

No offense, but when people gush over a series this much, it typically makes me want to see it less. I just don't respond well to too much hype. The rather arrogant way you label it as the "greatest thing ever" and completely blow off other people's opinions like they're somehow beneath you ("well...____'s good...but I've seen 12 Kokuki 5 times, it's that much better!") doesn't really sit well, either.

I'll gush over it, but only slightly. It's an excellent anime. They got many things right. A interesting setting (yes it's medival China in disguise, but IMO we don't see enough of that, and I've always liked the period. ![]() It's one of the series that does a good job of making the main character's transition from schoolgirl to the role she aquires in her adopted kingdom believable. That it does so while keeping the whining to a bearable amount is impressive. It's also got a great set of backstabbing, ruthlessly manipulative characters to help the heroine find herself. ![]() Being an appreciator of the finer weapons in life, Nagisa, you'd also enjoy the sword the heroine carries around. It's one of the more original weapons I've seen crop up in a fantasy show. I'd spoiler tag it, but you should really watch to find out. In short, Junni Kokki is a good show worth renting or buying. Perhaps not a defining work, but very good. |

Now this is the sort of praise that will get me to watch a series. Suddenly sounds a lot more appealing, thanks. ![]() |

Also the Show is only 40 something episodes because it was cancelled because the last episode of the series is the last part of the novels to deal with Yoko so there was no point in animating anymore of it.

I enjoy this series very much. Even though I have only seen three DVDs worth, the fourth one coming later this month
![]() I like it. It has very pretty art, and story is picking up rather well. I would not say it is the best anime ever. Cause there is never a best series ever. There are great series, this one is a great series, but never hardly a best series. But that is only matter of opinion. The intro and Ending music is fabulous. Those two songs are really something. The intro is very reminiscent of traditional Chinese music using a ka`to. |

I love the third arc of the series (Kaze no Banri Reimei no Sora). It's one of the most exhilarating story I've seen/read.
The first arc is a great introduction to the whole world of Juuni Kokki, the second arc shifts its focus to a completely different protagonist, and the third arc returns to Yoko, and shows how she is dealing with her new position. Personally, I wish NHK have animated the spin-off stories, too, since it's supposed to be about "Twelve" Kingdoms. I especially like Tonan no Tsubasa (about the empress of Kyo). But that didn't happen because there were no connections to Yoko. ![]() |

You mean Youko, right?
I get confused when someone says Yoko who is referring to Youko. Cause, isn't Sugimoto's first name Yoko? |

I've watched a few episodes, though I can't really draw a conclusion since I'm watching it RAW and have no idea what they're saying. The animation is solid, the character design is great (kinda reminds me of the video game "Last Blade" for some reason), and love that catchy ED.
