I dropped this after 12 chapters. It got boring real quick. The main characters are alright, but the harem shenanigans felt unnecessary and tacked on, and the supporting cast was largely forgettable.

I feel like it would be better if they just gave new series a minimum number of chapters so that the authors can at least plan around the possibility of cancelation. Being canceled at a moments notice is just irritating and almost never allows for a satisfying ending.

Sounds rude, but I actually celebrated when read the last chapter. I felt it went on a month or two too long.

Except they do, kinda? It survived at least 2 volumes without any actual progression, and the axe for it was seen in sight by pretty much everyone for a while.
Now there is a question if Ginka&Gluna share the same fate soon, considering it's pretty much on the same spot as Oniyome - or recent removal of PPPPPP postpone its inevitable death for a while.

This time, it was clear that the author knew it was coming. I doubt the final arc would have involved going to Manaka's home if it wasn't clear that they were going to be canceled a few months ago. Other plot threads weren't wrapped up, but that is inevitable when a story is cut short.
Ginka and Gluna is in a similar situation (that is, after today's chapter, it seems like it can finish in one chapter), where it has been heading toward an ending as of several chapters ago. I think it will be more of a proper closure though, because the story doesn't have as many plot threads to resolve.

G&G definitely will be gone, such a shame because I like this one. Also TDBS will have four volumes instead of the usual three.

They did, But if you can't attract readers after one volume-worth of chapters then you are out of luck. People not gonna wait for the story to "get good".

Nah - one volume is barely enough to show good potential and usually most of it is going for the establishment, especially for a new series. Even Jump gives authors at least to do two - while canceling the series way early is a rarity.
But if you cannot do anything to at least find your niche even after two volumes - you're 100% kicked out.

Real shame, I was really enjoying it and it was my favourite old school(?) story with battles, boy meets girl, light harem, and monster of the week. While I do like the current series, they don't really fit my preferences entirely so it's just shy of loving it. At least Ayakashi Triangle is still going and Yuna Hot Springs mangaka is hopefully coming back with something similar to that.
Oh well, I'll keep hoping this doesn't spell the end of this style and something new that clicks with other readers enough to make it stick.

Series was mid but I'll still kinda miss it. I'm now 4 for 4 of new WSJ series since 2021 I tried that died before chapter 30. It seems like it's a lot harder for Battle Shounens to last in that mag nowadays, the only ones that make it anymore all subgenre'd in comedy as well. And at least for me neither witch watch nor elusive samurai (which are both 2 years old now) sounded that interesting.

I actually liked this series because not only was it old school, the author weirdly didn't seem to care about rankings. The story beats are weird and doesn't seem planned. The pacing and paneling are frantic and often hard to make out. But he just kept drawing stuff he likes and seemed to have fun doing so?
It didn't even have that usual 'rush' you get from a series that's getting axed.
Everything about this series felt unconventional IMO. For a harem series, it barely even had fanservice! Was the author a previously working as an animator or something?

It struck me as one of those cases where a romance series specs into harem mainly because it doesn't know what else to do and adding more girls is an easy way to generate conflict.

Maybe Jump can stop pushing artists as authors? Get someone who can properly plan a story and then coordinate with the artist. It would make everyone's life easier and probably put more projects in a better position.

Even people who specialize in writing can put out stuff that doesn’t entertain the masses.
Not a guarantee to “make life easier” or “put projects in a better position”
Or ultimately make for a good read.
