They better hope they learned from the fiasco at Australia.

Kind of expected this. They also no-showed at major 2022 conventions like Anime Central.
Maybe now that they’ve all but monopolized anime outside of Japan, they don’t need to reach out to fans anymore. Or improve their service. Or do anything but process our credit cards when we renew our subscriptions.

They own pretty much everything, why would they need to reach out to the fans anymore?

I think it makes more sense for them to attend existing conventions anyway.

Would be nice if they focused on honoring the things they promised for the service rather than conventions... any news on moving queues or purchases from Funi to Crunchy? I asked recently if they would honor the grandfathered price I had for Funi if I moved to a Crunchy account and was told 'we have no option for that yet' - which is worse than a no. Am I supposed to wait for it to maybe happen or something?

I'll be excited about this if it means that they do actually start attending regular cons as industry guests again.

Maybe they'll try to be like Aniplex is to Anime Expo

Just a reminder: we don't take kindly to anti-industry misinformation and lies around here. If you're going to spread demonstrably false and conspiratorial statements about CR and other companies, you can expect to see your posts deleted, at a minimum.

There is nothing to prove that CR membership fees help the industry as they claim to, as well. Throwing it out there on the cancel screen isn't proof. I'd say most of that service fee goes to this beloved expo since they aren't interested in pushing it to updating their platform.

It costs a lot of money to host your own convention and it was probably always on the chopping block as tech companies continue to downsize.
I hope this means that they have a dedicated convention outreach team again and start appearing at big events.

So why do Japanese companies keep making licensing deals with CR, season after season, year after year? Is CR just that crafty, or are Japanese companies just that dumb enough that they'd let CR stream their shows without paying them? Since you apparently have access to their internal financial data, perhaps you can shed light on this quandary.

But how is that linked to helping the industry? That isn't paying for animator jobs or helping alleviating any sort of issues directly with the studios. CR has only ever sat on the sponsor table at most on certain titles, which brought out that questionable CR Originals brand, and whatever Guardian Spice was. Licensing to overseas companies to bring it over is one thing, but that's also just typical business deal with the one with the dominant market share after all (though they are also owned by Sony after all.) I would love to see evidence that a members sub helps the industry. Like I said, they could start with their website.
