Why does the statement read as awkwardly as the translation at issue? Go “on” a different direction?

Absolutely hilarious.
Anti-"localizers" just keep on winning, I guess! |

Localization is pretty much dead, especially for video games, dear god NOA localizers did Fire Emblem Engage as dirty as Fates.

Well… there goes any hope I might have had? They say better translation but that announcement reads otherwise

Turns out dunking on localizers works. First Koisuru (Otome) no Tsukurikata and now Kamen Rider Kuuga |

I think in this case it was the lack of localizing, with them just churning out low effort first drafts. |

FWIW, Titan Comics also put out a statement that provides some more detail about the steps they're taking-
https://twitter.com/ComicsTitan/status/1618689184931389441 It's not a franchise I follow, but I'm even less of a fan of bad translation jobs, so I hope they really do make it right. |

I mean... as I said in the other topic, the practice of promo translations being created separately is nothing new, and in some media it's pretty much the default MO? I honestly don't get what's the problem there.
If the translation in the released book is bad, that's a completely different issue, and clearly that's where the actual problem lies even in this case. I also wonder what they mean by "OVNI translated the promotional pages from Japanese to English using the style of the Argentinian release." Like... yes, it makes sense that a company would translate something in the style as other stories from the franchise they've released, and a different company would translate it differently, and again see my first point... but what does "style of the Argentinian release" means in case of an English language translation? |

The promo pages look good, with a fine translation and solid lettering, and were being posted by the publishers as recently as five days before the book released. The actual release reads like a machine translation and features sub-scanlation-level lettering. The quality issue is what people are mad about. Meanwhile, all the publisher statements focus on the discrepancy because they refuse to acknowledge the actual problems people have with their release, which falls far below any reasonable professional standard. |

I'm pretty sure they're trying to obliquely imply that Americans want a more "literal" (in this case meaning "with Japanese syntax included") because of the localization drama that pops up pretty frequently on Twitter. There are parts of the anime/manga fanbase that believe that translation can and should be done with machines, because "localizers" will just change things about the original text. |

Oof that is confusing.
I'm a Kamen Rider fan, but held off on this release. Maybe that was a good thing. I've nothing against Titan, but never considered them "leading", at least not yet. Well, I hope things improve as I do intend to one day pick up the English release. I bought all of Fuuto Tantei (Fuuto PI in the Western anime) and Kamen Rider Spirits/Shin Kamen Rider Spirits manga and hope those get localized as well. |

I’ll remember this if Gyakuten Saiban 7 ever gets around to being made (and god forbid) Ryuuichi is still around and called Phoenix or we get references to years old TV shows from the 1990’s or shit. |

Seven Seas has been in the news quite a bit the past few years as they seem to constantly get caught altering and removing things from their releases during the localization process. Once or twice could be an honest mistake, but four and more times is a bit too much for it to not be intentional at this point. I'm not sure if you are arguing in bad faith here but there is a very huge gap between broken Duwang translations and completely re-writing a series to the point the original author had to step in and get the English company to re-translate and re-release their series again because the translator rewrote everything with malicious intent. Most people are perfectly fine with 'natural sounding translations'. But natural sounding translations do not include things like Twitter memes or removing content you find objectionable. Your earlier post in this thread implied you were fine with Engage's shoddy localization because you did not care for one piece of content in it. Are you aware there's many more things wrong with it besides the Anna marriage? Were you aware they also removed same-sex marriage options from the English localization? It's not a good localization even if you're fine with objectional content being removed as there's still lots of errors and stilted dialog. |

Actually FE Engage removed marriage entirely, and used the softer romance system. Same sex couples weren’t removed, but all the underage characters were exempt from the pool, not just Anna. So yeah. Removing the option to romance children is something I’m absolutely fine with, especially if it’s not a natural part of the story. |
