Bleach and now this. Viz has been good buddy-buddy with Disney lately.
Still, with Netflix grabbing the live-action film (plus the popularity of Alice in Borderland), I thought they would do the same with the anime.

I've been waiting for this announcement, but I have to ask. When did Viz's partnership with Disney+/Hulu begin? and when will it end?

With how much they've been plugging the manga I'm not surprised. Wonder if it's actually as popular as they seem to want it to be.

Maybe the beginning of last season? Unless someone can correct me, I've noticed that Hulu isn't adding any shows that CR has licensed this season. Maybe CR's "first look" partnership ended with Hulu?

Yea it seems Disney is trying really hard to break into the anime market with Viz and Kodansha. Since Hulu is now streaming another Viz title exclusively this has me wondering if they might possibly even stream frieren beyond journey's end when it premieres later this year.

Hard to say when it could end. Disney basically has the resources to keep it as long as it cares to do so, and Viz is probably an "in" for Disney with production committees in Japan, namely Shonen Jump properties. I'm reminded of when Sentai got more assertive with licenses, which just so happened to end up streaming on Amazon. I could see something like that being pretty beneficial to both Viz and Disney.
I suppose we'll have to see how much of a library comes of it. I haven't been watching Bleach since adding a Hulu subscription for one show wasn't worth it, but if this announcement is any indication, it seems like Hulu is looking to bolster that offering.

If this is true ngl I would find it a bit funny if CR chose to end their partnership with Hulu out of spite for what happened with Bleach.

Viz has been using Hulu as their primary streaming choice pretty much ever since they started streaming their titles (partnering with Crunchyroll for Yashahime was the actual outlier) so using them for the US and Disney Plus elsewhere might just be coincidentally lining up with Disney dipping their toes into anime more than having carved any big new partnerships (though I guess it's also possible Viz just might be distancing themselces from CR as much as they can since their pseudo-monopoly probably hasn't done Viz any favors lately).
It's definently interesting seeing Viz doing an actual co-pro though, They'd mentioned last year that with that they might have to invest more in those with how much the streaming giants have locked them out of stuff with how much they're willing to pay. Hopefully they have more coming down the pipeline. Even if it's not much, it certainly couldn't hurt for CR to have at least a litle more regular competition besides HiDive

For some reason I was under the impression that this going to Hulu meant that Disney got this lol but you’re absolutely right I forgot that when S2 of OPM aired it was on Hulu exclusively. I do wonder if this means that Viz will start licensing more anime’s on the future

Kawagoe is an incredible director, and BUGFILMS have proven they have a lot of great talent with their episodes on Summertime Render.
I have not read the manga, but I am very much looking foward to this!

Trigun Stampede and By the Grace of the Gods Season 2 are now streaming on Hulu, so nope the partnership is still there.
