This particular manga may not work, but you shouldn't dismiss shoujo manga as a source for good horror. Some of the best horror series I know are shoujo (Godchild, Yami no Matsuei, Vampire Princess Miyu.)

Yeah, the manga was quite a let down. I really liked the anime and was really expecting a lot art-wise from the manga.
Thanks for reviewing it! |

I agree, but this particular series was pure hell having to read through it. I would put Skyhigh over this series, since their concept almost runs along the same lines. This manga though just has no way to pull the reader in to what is trying to be told or accomplished here. I would have expected the criticism that it has received. |

I think a major problem was that for some reason they picked Nakayoshi as the magazine to serialize the Jigoku Shoujo manga. Probably should've picked a magazine aimed at older girls. |

Agreed with every single word of this review except for the letter grades. C? I thought C meant average and this is a VERY below average manga series.

You might be right, because I think they also give out D grades as well. Unless they changed the system recently which I kind of doubt. |

When I saw the art style, I thought, "Is this REALLY the manga adaptation of Jigoku Shoujo? SRSLY?" I mean, there's nothing wrong with the shoujo style itself, but...well, to be honest, Enma Ai looks so much more haunting in the anime.
Or maybe I'm biased because the anime came first and it's...well, animated, with sound and music and all that. I'm still curious though, I mean, in terms of the stories in there. Will they be exactly the same as those in the anime, or will there be new plots? |

The thread in the manga forum would provide more insight your question about the differences between the anime and the manga. Like I have said before I personally do not like the manga and how its story is developed. I have yet to watch the anime though and may think different of it, but I still will not read anymore of the manga. |
