And people still wonder if the Olympics is an event that exists only to foment corruption and white collar crimes committed in the name of "world peace" or some sh*t.
If even in Japan this event still got riddled with corruption scandals, can you imagine what went on behind the scenes when this event happened in developing nations? And why there is an ever growing amount of people who are adamantly against it happening in their nations?
I swear the World Cup and the Olympics was the start of a huge downfall for Brazil... not that we were doing great before them, but it's quite impressive to see how much some cities in Brazil fell down to worse and worse levels after they happened. Rio de Janeiro in particular, before the events, used to be a city I'd visit but be careful about things, as any other big Brazilian cities.... nowadays, I don't wanna go anywhere near it. I wouldn't accept a 5 figure wage to move to it. It's the closest thing to an active warzone you can get down here, both fortunately and unfortunately I guess. So much for all the progress, infrastructure, jobs and all the empty promises the Olympic committee made back then... practically none of it ever came to fruition, all the money ending into corruption schemes, politician pockets and whatnot.

Well no, I wouldn't say that...
If you ask me, the Olympics is an event that exists to ferment corruption and white collar crimes, and serve as a tool in the hands of megalomaniac strongmen in countries where sports is pretty much the only thing that can serve as anything close to a national success story, in the name of "world peace". ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (Which is why a certain fat little man in Eastern Europe really really really wants his country to hold the Olympics, despite the country in question barely being able to hold itself together at this point.)

Japan actually has a fair amount of white-collar crime, mostly corruption and corporate crime. I guess it rarely makes international news, but there's been numerous scandals over the years that involved high-level politicians, big-name companies, etc., it's really infamous.

Personally speaking, the only option to replace the Olympics would be the Esports... Something that many countries, especially China, would vehemently oppose, as well as many sport people.

If Esports ever become big enough to overtake the Olympics it’s likely that the corrupt parties that worked for and with the Olympics would likely move on to Eaprts,

Corrupt and evil people will use any event (sporting and others) to criminally make money. It is not solely a problem of the Olympics.

The Olympics is a spectacle and a way for athletes to showcase their abilities. It is up to each nation to decide if it is something they want to do. It is something my family and I look forward to each year.

So in that vein, good luck to France 2024. I am still listening to Boléro - Prequell Rework from the French preview.

The Olympics in Tokyo was sketchy to begin with especially now that Kadokawa is involved, no wonder they tried to pull that attempted censorship stunt, it was a shield to protect a couple of corrupt folks.

Begging you to find another frame of reference for how the world works. It’s really sad to see that the only way you can interpret things is through a thick brain haze of bidoof’s law.

The Olympics in general were bad for Japan. Cities and companies had to adopt certain global standards and policies to meet criteria to host and be a part of them. Maybe Kadokawa CEO saying those dumb things about censorship was related. At any rate it's moot since he got rightfully dragged and had to apologize and take a pay cut.
