Is the Japanese-language "announced" page linked in the article also the place where her fundraising efforts are? Was wondering if there was anywhere to try to help support her.

Almost certainly. There was that Zeta Gundam Movie incident many years ago where all the vintage male seiyū were brought back, but most of the female characters were recast with no-name younger actresses.

If Wikipedia and ANN's encyclopedia are any indication, that's not actually what happened. Most of the voice actresses that didn't return hadn't had a role since the 90s and it's more likely that they retired from voice acting. The only casting couch situation that came from the Zeta movies was with Four's voice.

I'm gonna be the asshole and say this: GO SEE A DOCTOR.

Acupuncture is baloney. Treating an auto-immune disease requires medicine, not poking little needles in the skin.

It seems like this story keeps morphing every time I see it come up again.

From what I have been able to find from researching it, the "casting couch" thing was just a rumor based on wild speculation by Japanese fans at the time, which has since been passed around as fact at various English language places for years.

I guess my saying anything is pointless, since it seems like I keep getting ignored and the rumor is forever perpetuated by the same people.

I don't think you're being an asshole for saying this. Scientific evidence for efficacy of acupuncture is minimal or nonexistent, as far as I'm aware. Definitely not doing herself any favors; people believing 'alternative medicine' will help them, with no meaningful evidence and a poor understanding of what constitutes evidence, is deadly.

Would still like to help her financially if possible, though.

With regards to the acupuncture, there's a lot of painful autoimmune diseases that there's little real cure for. It's possible that she did see a doctor and was simply given medicine that didn't do much to help, or saw a doctor that didn't understand how bad her pain was. Faced with that, a lot of people do turn to shady alternative medicines like acupuncture, reiki, and so on, and when the placebo effect makes that feel like it works, they wind up wasting thousands.

Many do to this day. One 90s voice actor said she saw one current voice actor sleep with a higher up just to get roles. Sadly, the casting couch is in every industry and country. Look up any media industry. You will see all scandals there. It's not only in amime, nor Japan.

Sorry. Had to say it before some racist prick says how bad Japan is.
