To be fair, "Duncan" was 16 the first time Mills allegedly touched him. So Duncan was over the age of consent in Ohio. The article tries to make it clear that the first alleged sexual contact was when he was past the legal age of consent. Regardless, I still wouldn't call what is described by Duncan as remotely consensual. |

Ohio considers a 67-year-old engaging in sexual acts with a 16-year-old fine and dandy (legally speaking). Sarcasm aside, the concept is that Ohio believes that a 16-year-old is mature enough to make their own decisions about sex, regardless of the age of their "partner." Because sexual assault-type claims often go unreported and in secluded areas or similar, this might partially explain why Daman might still be getting roles at the moment. For the moment, I am siding with the accuser. However, sometimes but not always and perhaps not to this particular case, an accuser can make a detailed claim and have screen-shots only to have both be revealed as false.

I always believe the victims' account before any investigation has started; I hope that Funimation/Crunchyroll makes a statement regarding an investigation soon, and that any appropriate action is taken as quickly as possible.
Why does this merit an investigation? To determine whether it has happened to others, or if any misconduct goes beyond immoral into illegal territory. The fact that this is "legal" in Ohio sucks, and it was definitely abuse/assault in my opinion, but the fact that it happened there doesn't mean it's limited to events in Ohio. If something like this happened in a different state where the age of consent is 18, legal action needs to be taken. People who have a position where they're looked up to, regardless of what that position is, need to be held accountable when they abuse that role. |
