Good. I mean, it’s a district edict but this way Otakon has locked itself into a vaccine mandate even if DC eases theirs between now and then.
I just hope they work out a way to check vax status they doesn’t cause a bottleneck like what happened at ANYC. A lot of people get their badge mailed at Ota now. Maybe they can repurpose some of the registration manpower that would otherwise be doing Thursday pickups to checking vax cards. How are they gonna enforce this? Vaccine check at the door?

They haven’t said. I was just at MAGFest and they put a wristband on you after checking your card. At ANYC, it was like that but at the door, which caused an awful bottleneck that first day. But I guess, thinking it through, the difference is that there was a city mandate that meant they couldn’t let people through the door without checking their vaccine card. And NYC only had half a vaccine mandate, essentially, at the time… and we all know what happened at ANYC. At MAG, the vaccine requirement went beyond the county mask mandate so they could let people walk to registration without having checked their card. So if the mandate is still a thing at the district level come Ota, the logistics of how it’s enforced could be tricky. |

I went to Sacanime earlier this month. There was a check at the door when you went to the place to pick up your badge for either vaccine card or proof of Negative Covid test. It was really quick if you have everything ready, for me it was a picture of my card on my cellphone and showing my ID. |

And that is exactly why I keep a photo of my vaccine card in my phone. I'm also absent minded and would lose my card probably if I always kept it on me. It's just big enough to not fit properly in my wallet without getting damaged. |

Instead of speculating, why not look at how other cons already did it. AWA had pre-reg attendees submit a picture of their vax card electronically. Seems like I heard of some other con using CLEAR, the private company that does airport security pre-clearance. Also, Anime Central is also requiring vaccination and masking. |

Welcome news. Otakon's right nearby; not sure if I'm willing to attend a large dense event like this yet, but actively considering it, and this does help...

So all someone has to do is photoshop a picture to bypass the check at tht con. |

Yeah, but that's extra effort, and with some probability of being caught. Some people may be willing to do it, but if it can screen out some proportion of unvaccinated folks, that's helpful.

I did this, and it was super easy to do. I believe they were checking cards at the registration area to get a badge just like photo IDs. I had my badge mailed to me so I'm not sure, but it looked like the line for badge pickup was moving a bit slower than in years past. There was also onsite testing. Badges were required to enter most of the major entrances around the convention center, and you couldn't get a badge without submitting the card either in person or electronically. It seemed to work okay enough. I even sent a couple questions about it via email because I had my membership rolled over from the cancelled 2020 con, and had a snafu with the confirmation codes. In the midst of I'm sure a billion questions, they emailed me back just a couple hours after I initiated contact with detailed responses. So I'd say they did a great job of ironing out the wrinkles on the first try. |

Saying "all someone has to do is commit a felony" sure isn't the winning argument you seem to think it is. |

You can get your vaccine card replaced, and I assume most people plan to go to Otakon well before it happens, so that doesn't seem like it should be a huge problem to me.

If tickets are required and need to be purchased in advance, couldn't the vaccination screening be part of the ticket purchase? No vac - no ticket - no entry. I think authenticity of each applicant's vaccination, identification and the ticket, once received, could be verified quickly while subverting forgery attempts adequately with available technology.
