It's short for "lolita complex", in other words underaged girls. (In many cases, MUCH underaged.. ) But actually, that wouldn't cause anyone to get arrested, since in Japan lolicon manga is ok, since it doesn't involve real children. (http://www.animaxis.com/en/zine/newsletter/view.asp?id=N000573) In otherwords, Japan has really messed up censorship laws that make no sense I was told they changed a bit lately, but apparently it still is just as crazy as ever. |

One year sentence ? That's really f*cked up! He did nothing to deserve this. It was just a friggin drawing. I hope they release him. Geez, that really sucks. And I thought that the situation with censorship was better in Japan...

I'd have to hear more details about the case before forming an opinion.

"Lolita Complex" is a nice Japanese term for pedephilia.
Obviously this judge is just trying it on to see if it will stick with the Supreme Court. If it does it will set a devestating presidence for the manga producers, and anime as well. |

Even so, I believe he had every right to draw it. I think pedephilia is sick but I don't think that he should be in prison for his drawings. If he were to photograph the children, it would've been another story. P.S. Would you consider Ranma 1/2 to be pedephilic just becuase it has some minor nudity? |

um...if you bother to actually *read* the article, the guy is not the artist, but the publisher. Drawing is perfectly legal, SELLING drawings/artwork apparently isn't. Also, the one-year sentence is suspended - he isn't actually going to prison or anything. Hell, I'm almost tempted to say the judge in the case went through with this solely to attract publicity (either to hentai or to him/herself)

This whole thing is screwy! So I can't get manga like that in Japan, without the fear of some looney judge, trying me for having such an item??? I SO hope this is over turned! I say we find a way to support this manga-ka, in any way we can! Let him know there ARE people who will support him on this, and that he isn't alone in this fight!

Well not exactly... Lolita (the name of the little girl the book) is the title of the book written by Russian writer Vladimir Nabokov. It should be noted that the book was first written in English. Nabokov also latter adaptet his book into a screenplay for Stanley Kubirck. Anyway, the origin of the phrase "Lolita Complex" doesen't have to be Russian just because it has a word "Lolita" in it. You're right, but it makes little difference to me. I think that you should be allowed to sell this type of material (not in the place where little children can see it) and there's absolutely no reason why this person should be arrested. What's too of obsene anyway? Who's to say that one type of sexual activity is "obscene" while another one isn't (all while those activities are perfectly legal). |
