Lately I've been interested in exploring cultural differences between Asia and the West at explaining disconnects in story expectations like the one that was noticed by the reviewer. I'm not faulting or criticizing the reviewer in any way the review certainly increases my interest in this title (a good reviewer welcomes critiques anyway right?). So here's my stab at giving some insight on my limited knowledge of Japanese culture. On the surface the manga certainly seems perverted in nature; devil girls, scantily dressed and a title that suggests this is the manga version of the hentai version of a popular video game.

But a closer look at the characters reveals a big clue about their intentions: they want to be mothers. Everything about their design aligns with very natural and basic ideals about motherhood. The fact that they're demons, from the western viewpoint points to naughty, impure and impulsive. But that's not really as recognized in Japan, I think making them demons was just to give it more of a fantasy element. Another difference between the West and Japan is a difference in the association between childbirth and sex. Or perhaps in the translation. When its read that these two girls are obsessed with making babies, on the surface that's it, what can be more pure and innocent than that? But like many of us, when we see the expression, "making babies," what often really comes to mind is the big F word.

I enjoyed this one, though I would have appreciated more as it felt like this could have developed in to something greater than just one volume. I also expected it to be more echhi (not that I would have minded) then it actually was considering the premise and cover art.

It was like being served a decent looking meal that tasted pretty darn good, but there wasn't enough to satisfy the hunger. A shame...
