It was downright impossible to air it in January because that timeslot is occupied by another anime.

I guess being an 86 anime fan is suffering.

My Dress-Up Darling is also airing in the same 12 midnight timeslot and the same networks as 86. Episode 10 onwards of My Dress-Up Darling will probably be affected.

I don't follow a lot of anime, but the last anime with production issues that I watched was Kumodesuga and the overall art/animations suffered a ton it seemed.
Is 86 on the same level as Kumodesuga in terms of overall art/animations? Haven't started it yet, but have been seeing the news about the production issues for a while now.

Not really but Millepensee the anime studio that produces kumodesuga had a tight schedule for a 2 cour anime especially with how small sized the studio the quality went down as a result.
While 86 was planned to be a 2 cour anime that got split up since the schedule provided by aniplex and kadokawa was tight for that and despite the staff isn't big and rely on freelancers but the director is doing what he can to make it good and what helps the half of the production is CG which lower the burden.

86 is way way way better than kumo desu ga in terms of animation, and the direction is infinitely better.

I was kind of worried about a delay and how long it would be, but at the end of the day if it's to maintain the overall quality and make sure this season finishes strong, it'll be more than worth it even if it sucks to have to wait for the ending...

I still can't believe this was planned to air no scratch that they WANTED to air in 2020 and yet even delaying it till 2021 and split cour it still faced production issues and forced all these delays. I got to tell you i will give props to the animators for producing top quality animation even when faced all the pressure.

I waited Months for the last couple Episodes of Full Metal Panic, i guess i'll have to wait a couple for the last 2.
it's really a shame but i'll take quality or quantity any day when it comes to anime.

Geez, can't imagine how bad things must be going. Oh well, better quality later than garbage now.

Aniplex should've done the same thing as Egg Firm did with Jobless Reincarnation.
Jobless Reincarnation also had production issues, but Egg Firm thought ahead. They decided to take 6 months off in-between halves instead of 3 months. And it's paying off for Jobless Reincarnation.
If Aniplex knew ahead of time that this half of 86 was going to be that intense in terms of animation quality (especially the last parts of it), then all the more reason. But no, they just had to stick with just 3 months and these production issues/delays are the repercussions of that decision.
If these production issues show up in the episodes and 86 gets wrongfully criticized for it, then the fault of that lies on Aniplex, not 86 itself.
