No accent?

Not even Brooklyn one?

My heart kinda breaks.

Well I'd be very surprised if the Co-Producer of any upcoming film went into an interview and said about the film's lead "nah bruv, the performance sucked!" or something like that so I'm not sure I'd give this any merit.

I am kinda of two minds on this whole thing. On one hand, there have been depictions on TV and such that don't at all match what he sounds like in the games so I kinda just see this iteration as one of those and as much as I don't mind Mario's iconic voice in the games, I'm not sure I could see myself enjoying it in a full movie with lots of dialog and someone else trying to emulate that kind of voice delivery and accent would possibly be even worse.

But on the other hand, when those other depictions happened, there wasn't really an established personality and voice yet anyway but now everyone kinda knows what Mario is supposed to sound like and changing that for the movie could be incredibly jarring.

Now... one thought that just occurred to me as to how they might justify the whole thing is... what if they go the whole "getting sucked into the game" route? As in, maybe they were just normal people, perhaps playing Mario, and then they get sucked into the game and turned into those characters that they already know, which is also a way they could reference the "It's-a me, Mario!" thing without having that kind of delivery for the whole movie because they otherwise retain their own personalities and voices.
I'm not sure I would like it and it would kinda feel a bit like a cop-out but I wouldn't be that surprised if that's what they did.

I'm going to hope it is, but without hearing it, I don't think we can say if it's good or bad either way.

How can Chris Pratt's performance be phenomenal, if he is not even changing his voice?

Whatever we will see

Oh wow, the guy whose job is to sell this movie says the movie is good! Now there's an unbiased opinion!

While I'm waiting for the first trailer to arrive just to hear Pratt's interpretation, not to mention the look of the movie, even then I wasn't expecting Chris making an impression of Charles Martinet's voice, though I'm expecting Pratt making Mario sounding younger (I know that in canon Mario is supposed to be in his mid 20s but he looks older).
When this movie arrives where I live I'll probably have to watch it dubbed into Spanish since animated kids movies are never released with subtitles. Even then, I'm curious how Universal/Illumination is going to market the movie internationally, at least here in Latin America Illumination's films are filled with celebrities doing voices, even more than recent Disney movies that tend to be dubbed by professional dub actors. Mario's Mexican voice actor from Super Show is still active, (he has also voiced characters like Lion-o) and the actor who dubbed Bob Hoskins as Mario is active as well, (he voiced Falman in FMAB and Lenny in The Simpsons) though I don't think they'll come back to voice Mario though it could be cool if they get a role like Martinet will have.

If this is just going to be another typical Chris Pratt snarky, sarcastic, etc character then I'll pass. I already am getting tired of his more consistent schtick without it ruining Mario in the process. The original movie was ridiculous but it at least had a fun campy over the top feel and Dennis Hopper really played into that for his part. Everything I've read so far makes me think that this is going to be one of those projects that tries to hard to be funny, but doesn't actually get how humor works and how to be funny. At this point I'd take 2 more seasons of Bebop on Netflix over what this is shaping up to be. At least in a vacuum the Netflix Bebop is somewhat enjoyable.

Not like it would be the first time look at how many people still hold a candle for Toad’s original voice.

I bet the nod to his catchphrase will be, "It's, uh.. me. Mario."

The man is an actor - he can play other roles than just his usual goofy self. If they have proper direction, he'll play his character properly.

I'm thinking this will end up just like the Sonic the Hedgehog movie - a goofy flick that kids will enjoy. I hated everything about that movie, but I also wasn't the target audience.

I've seen nothing yet to convince me this isn't all some kind of prank. I am being punked.

Doesn't mean he can play them well. I have not been too impressed with any more serious roles he's had. I admit that is my own personal bias and enjoyment of him as an actor. I just feel too many of his roles have started feeling the same to me and it's grown tiring. I am also probably one of the few people who enjoyed the original Mario movie for it's over the top campiness and how ridiculous it was.

Honestly hoping that this will just be a movie highlighting the best of Andy Parks and Rec memes, just with Chris wearing a big red cap with an 'M' on it and feigning a really bad Italian accent. I mean, what production company ever comes out with a 'This movie and its actors are really bad' statement?

Also, Illumination...I was promised a new Minions 2 movie that was delayed due to the pandemic. I'd hate to think you're prioritizing Mario over my boy, Disco Stuart.
