I can only wonder how much of an influence Takarazuka was on Kill La Kill.

Surprised Sakura Wars wasn't brought up, considering its usage of Takurazaka Revue throughout the series.

I was gonna mention SW as well, considering it had massive success in the mid 90s. It's even having a crossover event with the Revue Starlight mobile game right now.

Probably not that much, honestly. Kill la Kill takes way more influence from anime and manga of the 70s and 80s, particularly Sukeban Deka and Cutey Honey.

The history of Takarazuka and its influence is definitely an interesting one, though. I also remember the movie Only Yesterday making a few nods to it, especially since one of the main character's sisters had a crush on an otokoyaku actress (which, at her age, would have been considered acceptable but she was likely expected to outgrow it).

Fantastic article. Even as someone who's done a lot of research on Takarazuka, I still found myself learning some new things. And I never picked up on the similarities between the Rose Bride battles and the Top Star System until now.

Takarazuka and anime is just a winning combination. There has yet to be a Takarazuka-inspired anime/manga I haven't LOVED, and finding out more about the Revue never fails to make me love said titles even more.

Only title I haven't seen from this list is Princess Knight. I should change that.

Finally, I read the article after I saved it for a time later.
Very interesting, we learned more things with this, thank you!
