If Knuckles is featured in the sequel, Paramount needs to include "A Ghost's Pumpkin Soup" (a.k.a. "Pumpkin Hill") on the soundtrack.

Wait, why Knuckles in the movie? He should be in the thrid movie, this movie should be Tails and Sonic

Tails is too passive of a character to base a whole story around his introduction. They gotta go in hard now so they can introduce a whole slew of crazy character for a 3rd movie. Knuckles could be an enemy in this like in the third game, or I hope they go more towards the Sonic Adventures angle of introducing him and the emeralds, hopefully go to a different planet(?I guess because that's how they do this...), and maybe for the finale when Knuckles works with Sonic they can either fight Metal Sonic or Chaos.
I'm hoping for a Chaos focused story, but a Sonic and Knuckles story with a Metal Sonic finale feels like the no brain choice a studio would go with.
I presume Shadow and whatever they would do with him would be in the 3rd movie. I can only hope there would be a heavy space focus for that movie.

Odd choice. I'm sure Idris will do fine, but unless he can make himself sound younger, he seems to be a bit too mature for the part unless they're going to make knuckles some kind of middle aged mentor figure or something.

Memory is a bit hazy but I don't remember Knuckles having a higher pitched voice in any of his spoken roles.

Well there was that one OAV where his voice was relatively high by Bill Wise, but not many people remember that one for reasons.

This is honestly surprisingly and really good news. Elba has phonemal comedic timing and a distinct sense of humour which might play off of Schwarz's Sonic incredibly well. Combine that with Carrey's (surprisingly?) gradually unhinging version of Robotnik and the second movie might a really good treat.

Because when Knuckles becomes BFF's with Sonic & Tails at the end of the movie, that will set them up for the 3rd which will be titled Sonic & Knuckles, because that's what everyone wants and remembers.
Having Idris Elba's voice come out of Knuckles is something I had no idea I wanted until this was announced; I'm way happy.

I don't really remember how he sounded in any voiced roles, but I don't recall him being portrayed as a much older character than Sonic. But perhaps that's just my POV

I hope no one was expecting Dan Green to play Knuckles like in that 4kids dub. I like this take with Elba. He's a cool guy.
