The stage is complete. I can see the streaming competition intensifying after this.

But here’s hoping it means FUNimation diversifies their studios in dubs a whole lot more.

Now the Jojo situation makes a little more sense, considering that Crunchyroll moved from Warner Brothers to Sony.

Hopefully this allows a lot more not-currently-airing shows to be dubbed in the near future.

Hoping that this leads to more blu ray releases. I understand there is some concern over Sony having both of the biggest licensors of anime, but they can't necessarily jack up the prices or people will just find *cough* other ways of getting to their shows if it becomes too pricy for them(not trying to endorse it, just noting the possibility)

Top 10 anime betrays

I just hope Funimation don't screw up the Spanish and Brazilian dubs... Crunchyroll dubs are way better and Funimation needs to use other studios instead

The two companies between them control(led) probably 95% of the market... What's left are dabblers and other little fish.

That's not a recipe for increased competition. Though the DOJ screwed up in letting this go forward, there's a reason why they investigated this merger in the first place.

I hope FuniRoll license some animes for blu-ray release under the Crunchyroll brand. I don't see this as a bad thing, at least not yet, it depends if less shows gets licensed each season from now on.

While a unified subscription will certainly be nice, I truly hope it doesn't use Funimation's website. It's barely functional.

I wonder what does that mean for Wakanim and for Europe in general. Does that mean I can finally watch Aniplex shows legally and not in Russian? Let's hope so.

Crunchyroll has several blu ray releases collaborations with several NA licensors, I wonder are those contracts still a thing？

Also it seems their library would still be separate at least in the foreseeable future, so no, for now we still have to pay both of them at same time Sad


PS: from funimation’s statement it seems they are “ultimately aiming to create a unified subscription service”, which god knows how long would that take

It's not just about streaming Rolling Eyes but also home media rights. Good luck for independent publishers like MvM and Anime Limited in the UK to get good licenses for a fair price from Funimation/Sony. Not happening.

I guess we can only wait and see how this goes. Hopefully with their powers combined they'll finally have a working player.

I feel bad for Sentai in this situation, as it is now they were barely getting licenses with ecchi shows, massively obscure ones like Getter Arc and Tsukipro, or sequels like Non Non Biyori. Now they have to compete with both Netflix and a FuniRoll conglomerate.

Don't love this but... I dunno, maybe FuniRoll can put some of that money into releasing Netflix anime on physical or something. Sentai is REALLY gonna have to find itself a new niche soon.
