The official Twitter account for the Tamayura franchise announced on Saturday that the Tamayura Alumni Association event, which was scheduled for October 10, 2021, has been delayed to April 24, 2022 due to the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Can ANN please stop referring to this as the "new coronavirus" It has been two years now.

There nothing new about this SARS-COV2 at this point in time. COVID has completely uprooted the entire core of human civilization, and continued to do for over 18 months. There nothing new about this anymore. We know of six variants at moment, with only three seriously discussed by world media, plus two new variants emerging (epsilon and gamma) appearing in Japanese and American medical journals! General rule in both Japanese and English journalism is things that are new, hold status for six months (Kyodo style guide, AP style guide).

"New" is relative, especially in biology. The issue with calling the virus just "coronavirus" or the disease just "COVID" (as done above) is that COVID-19 is just one of countless coronavirus diseases in all of human history. The first indentified SARS disease from 2002 was also a coronavirus disease. The common cold is a coronavirus disease.

For what it is worth, Kyodo still refers to COVID-19 as the "new coronavirus disease":
