So in short, this is a typical summer blockbuster movie. Ideas that could have done better, an abrrupt villain appearing at the end, Tanjiro's inner monologue that doesn't shut the heck up, odd CGI effects (I thought they were fine, though, I think the goop was meant to look unnatural.
I wasted $12 dollars for a single ticket for this movie when it arrived on Puerto Rico, and in while I don't think it was a waste...I wonder if it was fully worth it just to chase a notable trend. I mean, it was certainly something, but I honestly think this was a mixed bag and it actually baffles me slightly why this is the highest ranked anime movie ever, a movie that requires a bit better for people to watch the series proper beforehand...and I didn't do that. spoiler[Oddly, I did like the scene with all the other characters reacting to Rengoku's death. I guess I just thought it was a clever way to have the other characters showing up?] But yeah, just a mixed bag of a movie, and this article really does make some good points like how personally, it would have been great if other characters had their own dreams, but here's the thing; the movie would have been like...150 minutes if they did that. |

This is about what I expected out of this movie as soon as it started blowing up like crazy. Demon Slayer was a fun enough show, and it has a certified Good Boy and Best Boy in Tanjiro and Inosuke, but stepping back and looking at it as a whole, it's...Not That Great. It's solid, but relatively unspectacular once you get beyond the pretty effects animation. As this review noted, Nezuko is criminally underutilized (why are so many shonen series sooo bad at using female cast members?), and I want to personally yeet that sniveling sack of mucus Zenitsu straight into the Sun. I'm glad MesoutaGaby brought up Tanjiro's monologuing too: as much as I love the kid, he just never. shuts. up. It wouldn't take all that much for me to genuinely love the series, but it never quite manages to get to the next level.
At any rate, I will wind up seeing it at some point, but even before reading this I wasn't expecting much. I was already spoiled on the Big Event, and my reaction to it was a resounding "meh" given how little the character had appeared beforehand, so I can't imagine my opinion will swing around all that much. |

This is the best use of that meme I've seen to date, bar none. Nicely done. Also, "he has a sister in his backpack" is a line that in any other venue besides anime would really raise some eyebrows. As for the movie, it was ok? The slime CG put me off too. It wasn't scary, just ugly and off-putting, and took up way too much screen and screen-time. |

Future Historian 1: Why did this anime movie do so well?! FH2: It came out in 2020. FH1: Oooooh covid-19, obviously. Like, its not rocket science. |

I know Mugen Train was a really big deal, and TWIA was entertaining as always, but I gotta admit I'm bummed that Godzilla: Singular Point wasn't covered this week instead.

That's not how jokes work. 'Correcting' a joke isn't actually a joke. Also your response is basically "I know you are, but what am I?" Can we not behave like toddlers, please?

Full disclosure, I'm a fan of the show, and I liked the movie. Went to see it in theaters after getting my shot.
That said, this is one of the luckiest films ever. First, it shows in Japan where it had months of no competition and people watched it just to watch SOMETHING and get out of the house. Breaks all the records. Then, in the US turnaround, it benefits from the show airing on Netflix and riding the movie's hype to be one of the most-watched shows on the platform, and then it also benefits from a weekend against a film that had a same-day debut on a streaming platform in the Mortal Kombat remake, a film that suffered due to the choice to make it star some OC no one liked. Think about all those factors occurring to the film in multiple markets. That is blind luck. Thankfully Demon Slayer is a good enough show for this to work (yeah, it's not perfect, and there's some humor that doesn't work for me, but it works well enough), but still. |

I watched this back in April in the theaters with my uncle, primarily because of the very real possibility that Toonami would not air this movie before their inevitable pickup of season 2, even if season 2 didn't re-adapt the movie in some way.
I thought it was good. I can understand the negative points everyone brings up, but frankly, I don't think they're worth personally criticizing. I had no problem with them, so I feel no need to bring them up, let alone dunk on them in the process. |

One of the weaker arcs to me (if not the weakest, tbh). I definitely like Spider Mountain arc better. However, I remember being really touched by Tanjirou's subconscious place when reading the manga. His kindness might be too much (and twisted, to a degree) for some readers, but I personally find it inspiring like kindness cannot be complicated, even though he has his own version of it that won't click with me.
Well, some people are touched by scenes of characters dying, some others may feel it when seeing something so beautiful. His pure calm subconscious is almost the only memorable thing I love from this arc, I have such huge expectation from the adaptation even Ufotable can't satisfy my experience from seeing it the first time in the manga. |

Eyyyy as someone who didn't really vibe with the first Demon Slayer anime at all, outside of yeah Tanjiro himself, the pretty fights and MAYBE the ending to the spider arc stuff (that Tanjiro family montage cracked through me man) this movie surprised me! The Enmu stuff was extremely disappointing for the most part I definitely agree, but I thought the final third of the movie was great fun shit! I actually had no idea this movie RAMPED up the Rengoku worship like the Brotherhood anime did, but yeah I guess it makes sense. For what it's worth outside of Tanjiro the guy is definitely my favourite thing to come out of this series for sure! I don't enjoy Inosuke sadly, and despite Japan LOVING Zenitsu his presence exhausts me.
And yeah I definitely agree with what Steve said, the stuff with his mother got me real good. So ye why not I'll join in on the Rengoku fandom, he was a cool ass dude. Overall hey I can't complain too much. Last third of the movie was some great ufotable. That said, I remember saying on this movies actual review here that I thought the reviewer was overselling how good Heaven's Feel's fight scenes were when they were downplaying Mugen Trains, but on rewatch of HF nah they were right, all 3 movies have absolutely incredible fight scenes, and I honestly have no idea what kinda dark magic ufotable used to make the Heaven's Feel movies. Tax Evasion maybe. Oh and since the reviewers brought it up I'll just say it. Around episodes 5-7 of the first anime I had completely and utterly given up any hope that the series would do anything interesting EVER with Nezuko. Absolute shame and a terrible waste of such a unique idea for a """"main character"""", but that's shounens for ya. Forgetting her existence makes Demon Slayer more enjoyable I find, sadly. |

I watched the movie, and while I liked it, I didn't see any merits in the arc's story for it to be a movie instead of 6-8 episodes of the upcoming second season of the anime. It didn't help either that I had pretty much spoiled the big thing that happens in the movie WAAAAAAAAY before the movie was even released in Japan, courtesy of the manga readers.

I dont understand why Nezuko being a side character is such a complaint. Does she need to be a main character? I didn't even think twice about it.
It's better than a lot of folks are giving it credit for after reading through these comments and the posts. It's like solving the riddle why fairy tales (which add the shonen action and that's what this is) are so popular. It does what it does very well. Anyways, its gonna be shocking to some when the success goes beyond Covid 19...theres definitely more manga to cover. |
