If they were to animate that kiss it would be some Junji Ito body horror.
I am going to say that fight between Alma and maid lady could be pretty cool if done by people who know what they are doing. |

That's how you know it's working. EX-ARM exists beyond such concepts as good or evil. Find pleasure in the pain and ascend to its level. |

Like this....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LR2AOfdN6x4
Only with CG and a story so horribly done I'd rather marathon on loop Psychic Wars over the course of a whole weekend. Maybe the secret is...we are all EX ARMS inside. |

Its laughable with their sub-par 3D animation skills that they even attempted to render a kiss... most video games with avoid a kissing scene as it is too difficult and just avoid them with cinematic style cuts, camera pans to cover up the lip contact because their models are not keyed for that level of face animation or contact. |

It's absolutely incredible and boggles the mind that this isn't only so so good (at being bad) in terms of animation and appearance. The technical aspect is blown out too, shadows popping off, parts of the guns just disappearing, models clipping through, aliasing and white lines left from where they've cropped the 2D segments incorrectly, I could continue, but you get the point. Not only are all of those AMAZINGLY put together, but the plot of the original manga is being so loosely adapted that I don't even know whether I would call it an adaptation, or that they've merely licensed the property to deliver us this ultimate art project.

So I realized its a really minor detail in the giant pile of awful but I find it so hilarious that the window in the short gif of the review randomly flash bright and dark. You could say that maybe its because there's gunshoot in the room, but then why are the bottom and top half of the window out of sync? What could possibly cause that to happen? The animator clearly can change the window brightness, so they deliberately choose to have them flash out of sync, why?

What's funny about that is you're right, they're trying to imitate gunfire going off, but this is taking place outside and all the robots are situated about half a block in front of that building.

I'm surprised Mr. Dupree and the rest on Twitter have missed the obvious celebration of the LGBTQ that is implied by the star-burst when Alma kisses Minami. It isn't censorship, but a "glory" at the joy of contact with a like-minded woman. It's something even the great Shinaki employed to visually represent the emotion the characters feel for each other (see in my thumbnail) but he never had the GUTS to do what Ex-Arm has. It is a bold, progressive artistic statement that other would-be progressive anime could emulate...

I just feel this enormous outpouring of love for everyone here. I mean, I could not watch this show. I Just. Could. Not. Watch.
But I am so grateful to Nick and everyone else participating in these reviews: those who are so wittily joining Nick in his fever dream; and those who are pointing out the hilariously bad bits of animation here in the real world. I’m having SO much fun reading it all. Thank you. Thank you. |

Gods, the fog, the FOG!! THE FOG IS DEVOURING MY SOUL!!!!
:ahem: The scene that just left me gaping at the screen was when the UN guy shows up with his Big Dogs. I've sort of gotten used to the flatness of this supposed 3D-CGI, but he literally looked like they'd cut him out of construction paper and glued him to the background. South Park looks more 3D. Maybe it's because only his foot casts a shadow...in the opposite direction from the shadows of the dog and the tank. |

How do you think it feels when you write a manga, you’re told it’s going to get a fancy adaptation, and then this happens?

So Canipa effect put out an episode on ex arm......
I am seriously question how they apparently thought it was a good idea to motion capture everything and then just dump the raw footage into the character models, and no body could say NO DON'T. How did no one say lets have someone who has a little experience help. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Haa0J8oEyWA |

I'm pretty sure this is a case of the anime industry expanding faster than the talent can be formed. The number of anime coming every season as exploded, company wanting to produce anime probably just can't find enough peoples with experience so they just look for other people who have experience is similar stuff.
