I hope this announcement is well received! Japan can be very harsh about this kind of topics... I hope he can be happy now that he doesn't need to pretend to be who he isn't.

I'm wishing him all the best! I really hope this doesn't impact him getting roles or anything.
He's super brave and I'm very glad he can live a life he's happy with rather than feeling anxious and sad. I haven't seen anything he's been in (I watched gdgd men's party but I don't remember the ED) but I hope to see him in many more anime from here on!

Wishing him the best, considering how LGBT-unfriendly Japan is

Wishing him the best. Roman was pretty funny, and he helped a lot in that regard.

Why do people even make such statements? Why can't just everybody not care if someone is straight, gay, bi or whatever. It makes absolutely no difference to me what preferences he has and it's sad that there are still people who do care so much that it's still labeled as something weird by some.

It's tough enough to come out as gay.But to come out as a gay male and you are a celebrity is even tougher. It's great to see that he is brave enough to do this.Hopefully it doesn't sour anything for him.

For young people who might be struggling with their sexual and/or gender identity, a celebrity coming out may give them some hope and courage. For those who aren't LGBT+, it could give them a new perspective on things, perhaps helping them realize that such people aren't as scary, weird, etc. as they might've thought.
On top of that, celebs coming out can have a bigger impact in a place like modern Japan, which is pretty conformist and culturally conservative.

I've never heard of thus guy before this article. Looking at his page here on ANN, he's only had a couple roles. But now we all know about him now, so it's also a good way to get your name out there.

Don't worry, I'm pretty sure no one is motivated to come out based on what you know.

Ultimately, we don't want it to be a big deal, but until being gay is made completely normal and a non-issue, we have to be more vocal. Also, it's just practical for a celebrity to come out. Fudemura-san said he kept being asked what kind of woman he likes and he felt forced to lie about it (and I'm sure that's hardly the only time he was ever assumed to be straight). Now that the media knows he's gay, especially once the novelty dies down, he can legit be asked about his preferences in men and answer honestly. That, to me, makes the public announcement completely warranted.
Now, all that said, despite what he said about fans who are surprised, anyone who knows the guy ABSOLUTELY 100% suspected he was somewhere in the LGBTQ+ rainbow. The only people who are shocked are the ones who didn't know who he was before this blew up in the news. Those people are just shocked anyone is gay at all.

Hmmm. I don't know about that.
America has people who are extremely either for LGBT rights, or violently against. It is literally dangerous to come out in some places.
Japan is more like... We don't care, just don't flaunt it. Which isn't good, of course, and not having legal marriage isn't good, absolutely. But it's not dangerous, for the most part.
(Not that heterosexual relationships aren't flaunted that much in public, though...
Separation of the inner circle vs public eye)
In general, Japanese voice actors don't come out about romantic matters AT ALL. If they even mention romantic relationships, past or present, it's usually scandalous. Otaku have gotten a bit better at accepting marriage, though.
I think the only other VA in Japan who has REALLY come out is Mitsuo Iwata, who ironically? just posted the other day about being open to listen to anyone who needs help coming out.
As someone who has mutual friends with Fudemura and has been pushing for him professionally for quite a while, I was very surprised by his announcement (you can never really tell with Japanese entertainers), but very proud.

Wait... What? Isn't Iwata married to a woman?
