I think Japan is making good money off of this series. I don't really mind this one shot, but I thought it was fine where it ended. I wonder how long it will take for scanlations to come out?

They should have more. Its not like the actual Death Note itself disappered. there are still Shiganmi about. I think they should have another story.

Im sure theres a notebook out there that brings people back to life. Wink

So Death Note currently spans a pilot, a manga series, an anime series, an anime rehash movie, a novel, two movies, another movie, another novel that spins off the other movie, and now another manga.

... please. I love Death Note like amazing, but this is insane. Why can't we just stick with a manga, anime, movie, and leave it there, like Fullmetal Alchemist? There's another series that is both popular and very good, and those folks don't have a similar urge to milk it dead.

I'm still excited, but I wish we could get more manga that DOESN'T exist in the world/universe of the Death Note manga series. There has been enough in the story of Kira, can't we get more Death Note stories in which the Note user does NOT decide to kill villains to change the world (like in the pilot chapter? That was nice.)? Seriously, there are plenty of other interesting paths and motivations that people would act on if they had the Note.

Well, Fullmetal Alchemist also has a few anime movie spinoffs (the ones in the premium collection), an Universal Studios park walkthrough, several manga spinoffs ("The Military Festival," "Dog of the Military?" and the rest arent much different from this Death Note spinoff), more novels than Death Note, and more games than Death Note. And the manga is still going with many more volumes than Death Note. So Fullmetal Alchemist has been just as extended as Death Note--just without the live-action. Wink

Are you kidding? They are going to milk this just as hard, if not harder than NGE.

I hope Near appears in it. He's my favorite character. I'm a bit exhausted with all of this focus on L and Light.

As long as it's good, I don't really see the problem. With the manga, it's a new character in a new setting, so you have no idea where they're going to go with that. What's wrong with revisiting that series if they're going to take it in a new direction? If the new character ends up being another morally-questionable genius, yeah, it might be stale. But the writing in this series is still far above the rest of the crap out there, so I'm definitely going to give it a chance.

As for the live action spin-off, it's always great to see more of L. And I thought the guy who played him in the other two films did a great job of it. I think it'd be nice to have a movie from his point of view, because you don't really get to know that much about him (at least from the anime). I think it'd be great to see him before he started on the Kira case.

Does this mean my favorite toy-loving shut-in will return and solve the case?

Took the words right outta my mouth, hun. Cross your fingers for 'em both, I say. All we can do is wait and see/read.

At first I thought it would be cool to have a Death Note story that would have another protagonist, but then again, how far can you really go with a concept such as the Death Note? I mean, ok, so maybe we might have a new progtagonist who doesn't want to purify the world of evil, and they aren't a genius like Light was, but then what would they do with the Death Note if they weren't killing someone with it?

I guess they could do a story where the new protagonist gets the Death Note and when the shinigami tells them how to use it they could go "Mmmm, I'll think about it," and spend 12 volumes pondering whether or not they should take it. There would be epic psychological battles in the protagonist's head as they went over every single situation and the consequence they could run into if they used the Death Note, and vice versa.

And in the meantime, they could hook up with Misa Misa, since she's a Kira-Whore. Someone pitch this immediately!

Well, this is incredibly annoying for people who don't buy magazines. This will certainly be printed in USSJ, and, as a one-shot, it won't be in Tankoban form.

Realistically, there are a lot of limits to doing a well-done sequel. We did get the time-jump forward so it has to take place in the future.
If Near is still alive, he would likely recognize another shinigami killer so that has to be dealt with
(L had a child no one knew about?)
