BNA, Precure, and APPARE-RANMAN! were all spring anime so that's really a waste of a slot for all 3 of them. DECA-DENCE episode 1 hasn't had a great response over in Japan from what I've seen so my hype has been killed for that. ReZero 2 being split into 2 seasons is a letdown for me and killed some of the hype for that.
Sword Art Online -Alicization- War of Underworld -THE LAST SEASON is probably what I'm looking forward to most, 2nd only to OreGairu Kan. All the other actual new shows either seem really generic or just otherwise lackluster. I'm sure I'll enjoy most of the 15 shows I have on my list but I doubt I'll really remember more than a couple. Great Pretender is the 3rd looking forward to. 14 episodes have been out in Japan for awhile now and the feedback I've seen around that has been largely positive. Yet again, I wish netflix would simulcast... |

My list is pretty short because of the virus - I assume I'm not the only one -, so not counting the sequels (Oregairu, Re:Zero - weird having them on the list again but that's how it is), I'm mostly interested in Rent-A-Girlfriend, Uzaki-chan and Great Pretender. I'll see if I give Deca-Dence a shot, depending on the feedback on it.
Healin' Good Precure is kinda cheating: it's already out and at the 13th episode, although only the latest episode is available by any legal means (and only in selected countries). Personally I recommend to anyone not familiar with Precure to give it a shot; it's not my personal favorite - I'm more of a Suite, Smile and Star Twinkle person -, but it has some great characters, my personal favorite is Hinata. Also the lead is voiced by Yuuki Aoi, the voice of Madoka herself. |

Technically, PreCure is an winter anime since it usually starts in the first week of February. |

I didn't know Japan Sinks was gonna be a thing. Anichart has it way in the bottom as it's an ONA, and since that spot is usually just extra episodes for things, I tend to miss it. Thanks for bringing attention to it, I'll watch it.

For me, I'll still never get over how amazing Re:Zero was and how well it was received after getting dumped on by the entire ANN review staff back in 2016.
So looking forward to Season 2. |

Hoping not to jinx it, and just like 3.5 months ago, SNAFU Climax and Re:Zero season 2 are my most anticipated titles.

Heartcatch for me! Heartcatch will always be number one in my heart. For episodic shows like Precure, Kamen Rider and Super Sentai, the characters, interactions, humor, villains and individual plots are extremely important. If one can't get past that, it's going to be difficult, if not impossible, to enjoy and appreciate the overarching narratives. Sadly, I haven't really been invested in a Precure season since Heartcatch, though I haven't given the recent seasons a chance yet. Which would you recommend? |

I also really love Heartcatch! I feel it's the best season mostly because it actively does try to change up the show's overall formula and still be genuinely good and treat its subject matter with heart rather than cheese and preachiness. I also really like Suite, Splash Star, and Go Princess, and lately Healin' Good has won me over as well. (Some seasons are better than others. I personally don't like Happiness Charge because I thought it's lead character was way too saccharine, and many of the episodes just seemed poorly written, with several important plot elements just being forgotten after being made into a big deal. I also tried to watch Star Twinkle, but the main character's voice is ungodly squeaky and painful to listen to!!).
Also agree that Yuzu The Pet Vet is a great children's manga! The sparkly eyed artwork belies a wonderfully nuanced story about the hardships and joys that comes with caring for animals and the various illnesses and problems they deal with. |

@thedarkemissary To be fair, even those reviewers who gave the first double length episode a middling score in the preview guide still saw the potential in the story, and once the weekly reviews started, it quickly became well received by both fans and the episode reviewer. It was named best in season and runner up by two reviewers for Spring 2016, and named best in season by those same reviewers in Summer 2016. It made 5 reviewers top 5 of the year, including 2 naming it their number 1 of the year (the others were 2 3rd and one 5th). Even one of the reviewers who gave it 1.5 out of 5 in the preview guide wrote an article to the effect of “okay, there is indeed something there” (though he* did try to downplay its popularity right up until it took second in that year’s Mega Poll, only behind Yuri on Ice).
In short, yes, perhaps one might argue that they were somewhat harsh in their very first rating, but most of them saw the potential even then and quickly rewarded it when it met or perhaps even exceeded that potential they saw, to the point of awarding it their highest honors of the season(s) and year. That being said, after reading the initial reviews again, one does come off looking a bit short sighted, at least to me, but this is not the place to litigate that, so I will say no more about it here. As of this season, I would say my most anticipated remains the big sequels delayed from Spring, namely Re:Zero and Oregairu *edited for clarity Last edited by zrnzle500 on Wed Jul 01, 2020 5:52 pm; edited 1 time in total |

It was one of my favorites from its first season. A lot of us are looking forward to season two. I thought I gave it a good review in preview guide actually but I'd have to look it up.

Frankly I thought Re:Zero was a keeper even when it dropped that first double length episode. Presentation was strong, the central hook was established really well, Subaru was a distinct protagonist, the other characters had their charm as well. Wasn't sure what about it caused some to dunk on it as harshly as they did.
So obviously the second season is my most anticipated of both next season and the entire year. Deca-Dence I'm also interested in. |

So it looks like it got three stars from both myself, Rebecca, and Theron. Jake and Nick Creamer panned it.
animenewsnetwork.com/preview-guide/2016/spring/re-zero-starting-life-in-another-world/.100616 Most of the criticisms at the time were squarely on Subaru's personality as being annoying. Which it is. But that's also the point. It doesn't become apparent where the series plans to go with his grating expositions until much later, so I'd call it fair that based just on the first episode a viewer might think the series is attempting to frame Subaru as funny or relatable. |

For what it's worth, I did think he was funny...in a "pathetic loser" kind of way. Like he has solid interactions with most characters but a lot of the entertainment factor from Subaru's personality is seeing him get dunked on, either verbally or physically, and how he reacts to that. I mean, spoiler[the guy walks into a knife at one point. Not even runs, walks]. He's a dumbass but one that'a fun to watch be dumb. I never hated him, even with his many faults. |

I think that’s reasonable, even if I didn’t share that viewpoint then. Some people tend to see ratings under 3.5 stars or so as negative and it is lower compared to both the user average and later reviews, so I can see why some might see it as harsh, even if I don’t agree (which is why I characterized it as middling). When I said “they did try to downplay its popularity” I only meant that particular reviewer referred to in that sentence and not all of the staff here. I’ve edited my original post to clarify that. |
