My main issue with those mini Game Gears is the price. $50 for something that looks like it should be in a box of Golden Crisps.

- Game Gear micro: I don't think this mini console is coming to the west, and if it does I don't know how Sega is going to market it, the Game Gear doesn't have the same brand recognition as the Game Boy, and the reactions I've seen aren't very positive, most people are complaing about the size and the small selection of games. I think Sega should have made the GG micro the size of a GBA with at least 30 games included.
- Sega news: it was funny seeing the reaction of those who thought that MS was going to buy Sega or partner with them to rebrand the Xbox Series X in Japan, I mean the only Sega console that was a succes in Japan was the Saturn and aside from Sakura Wars and Streets of Rage there haven't been any rumors of Sega's old series like Virtua Fighter coming back, I mean I used to play the Genesis a lot but I know that Sega is not going to make new consoles again. Still, I don't understand the inner workings of this technology but it's cool to see that Sega is still researching new ways to make games.

Me too! But I'd like to wait a bit for a sale in the future. $100 is a bit much imo for a mini system that I don't have any nostalgia for.
GG Micro: I'm most disappointed with their decision to split 16 games across 4 different systems. Unless there's more hidden games, $50 seems quite over priced. GG games are less than 1MB, so I can't imagine it's a space issue.
I also think they went way too small going for the micro idea. The GB micro (2" screen) seems to be as small as you can go while still being playable, so going to nearly half that (1.1" screen) seems ridiculous (good luck with those text based RPGs). They should have either made the screen larger, even if it meant impacting the GG design, or made the whole thing larger.
I loved playing on my GG and would have loved a proper GG mini/micro, but this isn't it. I'm still hoping to see a GB/GBC mini in the near future.[/url]

They just recently updated the platforms to the EVO games earlier today. Skullgirls is switching to the PC version and Killer Instinct will be Windows 10 PC and Xbox.

Glad to hear that they made the change with Skullgirls. Heidi was right, much of Skullgirls' community is on PC. Sticking to the PS4 version specifically is a real bad move.
The Game Gear Mini looks interesting, but yeah. Definitely not paying $50 for something that teeny. Even the Game Boy Micro didn't have a screen that small.

That Game Gear leave me wondering what Sega was thinking. $50 for four games. So $200 if you want all the games, which is way too much. And the thing is small enough that if you do buy all four, Sega will include a magnifying glass, which tells me they are well aware that the size is going to make prolonged play a pain. Possibly literally depending on your hands.
The Genesis mini is really good and well received, so I'm confused how they wound up deciding this was fine.

Bang-on. I have a Game Boy Micro and revere the engineering of it. I understand it's not wholly backwards-compatible like its predecessors, but it's honestly as small as anyone should bother/get away with for dedicated portable gaming. I have the Famicom version and adore it's formfactor, the little pouch to slide it into, and the fact that it's not that bad to hold despite what you'd imagine!

Unfortunately, Sega's golden age in the arcade is long gone (both the west and in Japan), Daytona 3 got pretty mixed to disappointing reviews, it's hard to screw up Daytona USA. Also, I have doubts that a cloud gaming service can function well in today's arcade environment, which is mostly fighters.

Honestly I think more people in the west support Sega than Japan. The original Mega Drive and Genesis didn't do very well in Japan compared to America. The only Sega system I recall getting praise in Japan was the Sega Saturn, mainly because it allowed adult games unlike PlayStation and the Nintendo 64 so it gave them a nice niche to fill. Sonic, at the very least, is certainly more popular in the west than Japan.

I dunno about mainly - I think Virtua Fighter and Sakura Wars had more to do with that - but it did seem like in some ways, it filled a similar role to the PC Engine, after NEC themselves failed to follow that up properly.
People's impressions of how well known the Game Gear was are all over the place, but I do know I wanted one pretty badly as a kid, and friends of mine had one - it had Sonic and Streets of Rage and X-Men games that were definitely not as good as they looked.
I would not be surprised if they delay bringing the Mini over here in exchange for a higher title count and maybe higher price point. (...although let's face it, it'll be interesting to see how people hack this thing)

The Game Gear looks more like something to put on your figure shelf next to your fake Sega Genesis with the Sonic statue on top of it from Sonic Mania and your Solaire amiibo. I can’t see anyone using these things to game on beyond the first couple of days owning it. It just looks unplayably small.
...but why a Game Gear?
Sega is so weird.

$40 for a microscopic handheld with all of four games on it...oh, and you have to buy it four times to get the total library and the thing that makes it actually visible. Who is this for, exactly?

Seems like one of those mini-Arcade props I see. Too small to actually play comfortably, more of a display piece/novelty gimmick
