Just curious as to why the new banner ads are not anime related.

Moonpod is looking to advertise to different markets I guess. As long as companies want to advertise with us and don't break our acceptable content policy, they're free to do so.
ANN isn't quite rich enough to start turning back advertisors just because they aren't selling anime.

Ok, I guess there are only so many rich anime companies willing to sponsor this site. Hell, I guess "rich anime company" mgiht be an endangered species itself!

We lost one "rich anime company" as a sponsor this year, and it was actually a bit of a surprise.
But we've gained a couple that you'll see regular advertisements from starting soon.
Click on the banners and buy their stuff Make them happy.

Nope, their banner is still up top, even though it is not on the side. Rightstuf is nowhere.

That's something that pisses me off to no end. It's one thing to block invasive advertising like pop-ups, but the fact that software like Norton Internet Security lets you block any banner, that's just plain wrong.
If I can every figure out a way to script the site in a way to not display anything to people that do that... I will.

You already have one
Firebird will not block the ads on your site, and if you want to use the custom ad blocker you run the risk of blocking non-ads. Most of the ads that ad blockers block are from the *.ad.* type addresses; since yours are stored in a sub-directory they are harder to block.
But I use them in place of links to Robert's
BTW: Does ANN get a kick back from the store if we buy from them are a redirect from here? I for one would be more willing to shop at a store that does that.

Yeah, his entry was funny! First time I saw that I'm like, "Hey! That looks familiar." I had to look it up just to be sure. But, that's cool that it's got it's own site.
The pocket of safe-keeping! *clink clink*

We don't get kick backs for buying through the banners because the advertisors pay us in advance. This is the same for the buttons on the side.
But essentially, the more people buy from them through us, the more likely they are to advertise with us again...
As for the release list, yes, we get a kickback for purchases made there.
