If anyone deserves the award, it’s him.

He does, but Frank Welker probably deserves it a bit more.

Something must be wrong with me, because the first thing that crossed my mind as soon as I saw his name, without finishing reading the title, was "Oh god what happened?!" I've just come to expect bad news anymore.

His performance as Optimus Prime is arguably one of the most iconic vocal performances for any American property; it always made an impression on me for how gentle and controlled a voice it was for a deep-throated super-hero, and I remember that when the trailers for the first live-action Transformers movie came out, I practically cheered upon hearing that voice again. He also voiced a lot of Toonami and Cartoon Network advertising bits and was the voice of both KARR (from the Knight Rider franchise) and main villain Venger from the '80s Dungeons and Dragons series. I was also surprised to learn that he provided the first English vocal performance for Mario.

Definitely an honor well-deserved.

I always felt his Toonami promo narrations deserved some type of award. Glad to see he's finally getting acknowledged for it, in a sense. Congrats.

May this be the start of proper recognition for voice actors. I've always felt that they're never recognized in proper awards.

Dude, it's the times we're in. I mean, there's never been any shortage of bad news in any era, but like you said, you get used to hearing the worst. I'm with you there in where my heart sank with I saw his face as the thumbnail not even reading the headline my first thought was he said something "bad", getting sued, or dead.

They both deserve it equally.

I have a Transformers 1986 movie poster signed by several movie cast members that was given to me when I was a child and still have.
Frank Welker, Judd Nelson, Leonard Nimoy, Peter Cullen are just a few of the signatures on it.

I also have a Vehicle Voltron DVD set signed by Peter Cullen, as he voiced a character or 2.

Good times..

I like to believe that Peter Cullen doing the voice over for the Toonami promos of the late 90s early 2000s is part of the reason why anime on Toonami got to be so popular, but if nothing else, he definitely helped to make that block feel more epic!

I know Steven J. Blum does the Toonami voice overs now (I'm thinking Cullen is either too busy or no longer affordable now) and he is certainly a voice among voices, but he is no Peter Cullen.
