Wow! She lost hearing in one ear. Crying or Very sad It really stinks, but she is a real trooper and continuing to sing! My choir director, back in high school, is deaf in one ear too, but her right ear is so sharp it is scary. So maybe Ayumi will have a stronger hearing in the working ear!

I seem to remember something like this coming out a long time ago. Not that she actually went deaf in that ear, but that it had been giving her problems for years.

It's kinda sad, but I'm sure her singing will be fine. I saw some people who are deaf in both ears, and they can sing better than her Laughing

How sad but I doubt her singing will be affected, talent like that can't be bothered with whether you have one ear working or two. She will still be awesome. Smile

That's unfortunate, even though I never liked her music all that much.

Why? I love her music and hope that she continues to go forward and not let this deter her from her very successful career.

There's no reason that partial hearing loss would impair her ability to sing. It's not as if she'll suddenly forget. And if she's been dealing with problems for a while then she's already used to it. In any case, while I don't mind her music , I think she's a bit overhyped. If anyone is devastated by this news, you probably need to find some other interests...

True. As opposed to the one TV spot I've seen of her where she forgot the lyrics to the song she was singing. Very Happy That was very funny. She gets this look on her face, starts singing "La la la la la..." and then stops to break out half laughing and half freaking out to apologize...very embarrassed. (Sorry. Didn't keep the link to the video.)

Actually, if you lose your hearing, even partially, it gets harder to hear yourself and monitor the tone of your voice so that you stay on key. Still, if she's been dealing with problems with her ear for a while now, she's probably used to it and it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I have tinnitus in my ears too, and my left ear is heavily damaged compared to my right ear. I'm also about the same age as her, interesting.

The people who earlier said that losing your hearing impairs your ability to sing are absolutely right. Ayumi Hamasaki obviously knows this, it is stated in the article. If you are become completely deaf you probably cannot sing well anymore, no offense jetz but I don't believe you.

Here's something the article doesn't say but I am pretty sure about. Chances are that if her left ear has gone completely deaf, then her right ear's hearing is no longer all that great either. If she is not careful she really might lose all her hearing. It depends what caused the tinnitus. It's not a well-understood condition and it can have many causes.

I'm not even sure what caused mine. It may or may not have been exposure to loud music. I think mine was viral, I got it at the same time as my state was declared a disaster area for 3 months of nonstop rain.
