This gives me hope that it has the potential to be a good adaptation, but we'll have to see who else joins the production.

I'm intrigued. The script should be good, at least. I've enjoyed all of Vaughan's comic book series that I've read, but have not seen either of the television series on which he has worked (Lost and Under the Dome), I know that they were well-received, though, which is a good sign.

So is this going to be UC stuff (with Amuro/char) or just in the spirit of gundam with it's own universe?

Gundam is one of the series that should technically work really well with live action.

They haven’t said yet. It’s either going to be a brand new AU or an Origin adaptation, and no one has clarified anything. And while Vaughan is a good writer with solid credentials, we’re probably a year away from a usable script AT BEST. To say nothing of principal photography, casting, etc. |

If Detective Pikachu and this end up being really good Cale Boyter may end up being my favourite person.

Well hopefully that's a good sign. My biggest concern remains whether the writing will have a good grasp on what the "spirit of Gundam" is, if that makes sense - some people over here like to boil it down to that one "war is bad m'kay" meme image and that's it, which frustratingly reductive.

All I want is for it to be more gritty & realistic compared to other live action robot movies like Pacific Rim & Transformers. After all Gundam was what started the real robot genre so it would be nice if they bring that to the live action movie.
When I was reading the novelization of Gundam 0079 I was thinking how much more realistic compared to the anime it was and how that would make great live action films. Doubt that would happen but I can dream. |

Given that Brian K Vaughan's Saga and Pride of Baghdad both critically focus on the effects of war on the most innocent or even those substantially less innocent, I think we could get a pretty decent Gundam story out of him. |

Oh right, he did Pride too. Yeah, the guy is a solid writer.

I don't know much about the author but it makes me more interested that they're going with a comic book author as the script writer who may at least have a more general idea of what the target audience expects out of the film.

...this is honestly one of the things that worries me, that this aspect will get focused on too much and we'll end up with Call of Duty Gundam. I tend to think Gundam is at its best when its personal to the point of being kind of weird, but there's so many types of Gundam fans at this point I suppose saying as much is meaningless. I guess I still worry that for a production like this, the attitudes of "teenagers are dumb" and "Newtypes are silly, Zaku are the best" will distract from some of the things that made it all work to begin with, you know? But, yeah, as long as whatever it is is good, in general...
I hope you're right. |

I haven't read or seen anything made by Brian but it seems that he's a pretty popular writer, so maybe Gundam is in good hands. I wonder how are they going to adapt Gundam into a movie, it seems that they're using the Universal Century as a basis, but it would be nice if they take some inspiration from Wing and 00 by having multiple Gundam pilots. Obviously we also need Zakus, a White Base-style ship, and a masked anti-villain.
I haven't seen Alita, but I heard Rodriguez and Cameron did a good job adapting the style from the manga, I know that the Mobile Suits are going to be made in CGI but it would be cool if they use some practical effects for the cockpits and maybe some shots of the machines, also the main character is probably going to be a young adult instead of a teenager and it would be nice if they cast a japanese or half-japanese actor as the lead to honor Gundam's country of origin. |

Who was asking for this? Just play Gundam Thunderbolt in theaters.
Oh wait, I do believe I found some leaked footage for this live-action movie. (Seriously, that was a product somebody put out.) |
