It's not about type, it's about quality. CGDCT is now one of the most popular genres, so a significant portion of the works in this genre are pretty cliché works, which are adapted entirely from the trend itself. This is not surprising, any popular genres go through it. |

It's not exactly about quality either; it's about profitability. This was not one of the higher quality CGDCT of 2018: animenewsnetwork.com/news/2019-01-20/dropkick-on-my-devil-comedy-tv-anime-gets-2nd-season/.142328 In the CGDCT club on MAL, Long Riders is one of our favorites of the last few years. But not many people watched it, and its reception was worsened by production issues including poor animation and delays. |

Profitability is not taken from the ceiling. Cult classic SoL like New Game, K-ON or Yuru Camp were hits, not least because it was a quality works with well-written characters and a wide appeal to both boys and girls. I didn’t watch LR, so I don’t want to say anything about their quality or potential, but if the Japanese themselves didn’t consider them worthwhile work, then nothing can be done. |

What does that mean? The rest of your post is pretty much just stating the obvious, isn't it? My point is that not gaining popularity and/or a second season can't be used as a reliable indicator that a show lacked value. I think most anime fans would agree with that. Edit: Returning to the original statement that "this type of anime rarely get a second season," I don't think it's actually true that CGDCT sequels are much rarer than sequels in other genres. TV sequels tend to sell less than first seasons, so production committees are usually more eager to launch a new show from whatever unadapted manga/novel/game they can get the rights to, rather than a sequel. An argument could be made that the high volume of mediocre to poor CGDCT that comes out makes it harder for the good ones to succeed. |
