This seems to be happening a lot recently. Payment processors flexing their muscle again I guess.
Like PayPal keep doing, even though way back when one of the things it was orginally designed to do was to allow sex workers to transfer money safely.

But they know they were banned because of actual pornography, not Kodomo no Jikan. This seems overly cautious. Poor KnJ has been dragged through the mud for years and years.

Huh? I seriously doubt that Elon Musk and the big money behind PayPal had any thought as to making the lives of sex workers any easier. Which it wouldn't do anyhow - PayPal is not anonymous, and mobile wouldn't be a thing for quite a few years after it was founded.
So, in other words, got a cite on that claim?
(And "war on anime"? What are you smoking?)

The article is a bit incorrect in regards to this line:
"Shopify lists pornography as one of its prohibited businesses."
The terms linked to only apply when processing payments through Shopify's in-house payment processor known as 'Shopify Payments'. Which is a payment processor ran by Shopify, Stripe, and Wells Fargo. Shopify allows merchants to use a wide range of third party payment processors that are perfectly fine with adult content, and will only operate as a storefront platform which removes that adult content restriction. There are plenty of companies who provide adult content, tobacco, and other things utilizing Shopify in this way.
I don't know what payment processor Project-H was using to accept payments on their storefront, but if they were in fact using Shopify Payments then that would be the cause for the ban indeed. Otherwise, if they were using a third party processor and still got banned then I doubt it had anything to do with the pornography aspect and may be a different issue completely.
edit: ANN writers corrected this in the article. thank you.

Thanks for the correction!
I can't check the Project-H website, but the eManga website has no indication that it's using a third-party payment method. Of course, I also can't confirm by looking at it that it is using Shopify Payments, so you're right it may be for reasons unrelated to pornography.
I would think that eManga and June would also be down if this were the case, though, or at least they wouldn't feel the need to take down Kodomo no Jikan.
That's as best as I can speculate on that...

I really don't like Kodomo no Jikan. I feel like it reinforces every horrible negative stereotype about manga and anime. What I've seen of it seems worthless and exists just for shock value humor.
That being said, it should NOT be censored. It's just drawings some nutty lady made. If you don't like it, don't buy it.

It's...not being censored? A digital storefront or business deciding it doesn't want to release something, for whatever reason, is just them exercising their authority as a company. Shopify haven't done anything to erase the existence of the work or alter its contents, they're just saying they don't want to sell it - likely because while it's not illegal, it's pretty damn gross. To call this censorship is like saying Funimation is censoring The Tatami Galaxy because they haven't released it on blu-ray yet.

Ayup. Welcome to the free market! The marketplace can decide whether or not they want to host your content off of entirely arbitrary reasonings. Nothing's stopping anyone from hosting KnJ someplace else, and the First Amendment only covers the government stepping in (which so many people forget in the first place).
So really, if anything has to be criticized (if anything), it's what's-her-face for writing something nobody wants to host.

Nobody even censored it - Digital Manga just decided to take it down "as a precaution" for some reason
And I agree with others ... PRINT THE DAMN BOOKS AND SEND THEM WITH MY OTHER REWARDS.

As someone who was really into this series (watched all the anime, read all the manga,) before I became an adult and felt very, very squicked out by it, I think the statement that the manga "isn't pornographic" is disingenuous and pretty telling of not having an intimate familiarity with it. As it progresses, it gets increasingly smuttier, to the point where there are pages involving Rin pleasuring herself as she also urinates. Pretty NC-17 stuff.
There's this reputation the franchise has among anime fans as being unfairly put upon by Big Bad Censorship, but no - it's entirely fair. It's softcore smut that centers around seven-year-olds. Expecting that to go unchallenged is naive, especially considering it faced similar scrutiny in Japan.
THAT SAID. My own personal bias aside, the company absolutely owes it to the paying customers to send out the physical copies, or at the very least, refund them. They're a business, first and foremost, and they should've known the risks this series poses before they decided to get antsy about it. Taking people's money before giving them the promised product is scummy.

It’s more Cinemax “pornographic” though. It isn’t PORN / hentai, just very ecchi. It’s obvious that the mangaka panders to lolicons, BUT if you aren’t one, there’s still a lot I found interesting in the story - it’s kind of fascinating in a way, bc we don’t usually get this kind of “sexual awakening for young girls” examination ... not to mention the storylines about the adult female teachers ... there’s just so much in there in between the fanservice that you would never have seen if it had been created by a lolicon man, tbh.
The girls start out as 8 and are closer to 11 (and eventually 16) as the story progresses. It’s conpletely normal for 9-11 year old girls to experiment with masturbation and to start talking and thinking about sex.

Surprise surprise, retailers don´t care for selling porn or child phonography. Who could have guessed... Digital Manga on the other hand was suspended by the government for not paying taxes recently. That how desperate one must be for the reliance on publishing quality content as this. Reminds me of the last days of Tokyopop US. They got even more desperate with their choices.
Just go to your local library and get Vladimir Nabokov´s Lolita. That one is a legit masterpiece. One society could get behind after a bit. Kodomo on the other hand failed any reassessment after a full decade passed. Good, very good.

And the consumers can decide whether they want to buy from said marketplaces as well, but then they complain about their content being pirated. C'est la vie. The cycle continues.
