Yes. If you look at the daily earnings on watch Mojo, you’ll see that it earned $947,636 on Tuesday Sept. 25 with the dub, as well as $719,876 on that Thursday, and $1,191,650 on Saturday, all dubbed. For the sub, it earned $911,262 on Wednesday Sept. 26, and $1,004,659 on Tuesday Oct. 2. So, I would say they are nearly equal. |

Warner Brothers advertised and distributed Pokemon ($85 million, or about $155 million in today's money) as well as Yu-Gi-Yo. Then Disney distributed some Studio Ghibli films shortly after - not realizing that the "critically acclaimed Ghibli films had less commercial potential in America than shonen fighting and video game tie-in films - and after those and the subsequent Pokemon movies didn't make much money, the big studios and distributors lost interest.
Problem is that thanks to streaming, anime has grown and become more mainstream in America than in the nearly 20 years since they were mostly heavily-edited filler on kids' (or other marginalized) programming blocks like Adult Swim, Disney  and WB Kids. With proper promotion and backing a lot of anime films could regularly earn $15-$25 million in the U.S., which is more than a lot of U.S.-made films make.

Maybe. Maybe not. It's hard (dangerous) to extrapolate from MHA:TH because it's part of a huge currently airing franchise.
We've had Ghibli Fest (Ghibli movies on the big screen) two years in a row now. When I go to a store with an anime section, the Ghibli movies are (with very few exceptions) prominently featured. Almost all of the Ghibli movies have been re-released on Blu-Ray.... Pretty much none of this is true of "shonen fighting and video game tie-in films". |

5+ million accross 500 theaters is a massive success lol. Its the 10th best performing anime movie of all time. Unless this is bait? It kind of has to be right? |

I'd call the film a success too if I was willing to disregard the reality of the thresholds of box office earnings to suit my views as a fan.
But, since you guys want to disregard such realities, then go right ahead. |

Explain the logic behind you thinking this is a flop. $5 million for a limited, event release would almost always be considered a successful venture. Only way it would be a flop is if Funimation paid a comical amount for the license, but I doubt you've seen their contracts. |
