In regards to the times, I am rather curious of today's societal perspective and awareness on anime and manga, as inspired by the Anime NYC Conference that will be hosted on November 15th, 2018. Appropriately being on a site where anime is the focus, would you say that anime is mainstream, underground, or somewhere in between? And if you could or are willing, would it be alright if you explain what you think gets anime to be as mainstream or underground as it is, your stance on anime being either or in or alt/underground and why as well, and what kind of cultural impact you see and feel anime has brought to your side of the world?

That depends on the groups of people who are talking about and on the titles you are talking about. For example, for people in Japan titles like One Piece or Ghibli movies are obviously mainstream. In fact stuff like Dragonball and Pokemon animated series are kinda mainstream everywhere.
But if you are talking about stuff like Lain, Girls Last Tour or Texhnolyze then only specialized fans will be aware of it. |
