Last I heard, even some of the current ones are still a bit... iffy in that direction. Still, some of the stuff in the older ones would not fly today.

I think it's very naive to completely sever real life from fiction, as real life is still the basis for fiction. The only reason "an 800-year old vampire loli" exists is because the writer/author clearly recognizes that there is a fetish for a certain body type but is also aware of child porn/pedophilia laws. It's not like they pulled the concept from nowhere and just blindly believed it would sell. |
Child porn/pedophilia laws don't apply to 2D characters at least in Japan and many other countries so that is not the real reason. |
Hello from one of the countries where they do apply to drawn characters. For what they can get up to on Japanese TV, legally it's less troublesome than one might think. (Our laws basically operate on apparent physical age rather than stated age, but most things short of actual porn aren't going to get banned.) Some things are down to skirting around not laws but TV network guidelines, and others are more down to providing a minimum amount of deniability in case the moral guardians start kicking up a fuss.

The anime never mentioned who's daughter she was specifically anywhere that I remember. Granted it has been a long while and I'd never want to watch that ever again, but I'm pretty sure that was the case. I remember that it Just stated she was also the daughter of the girl succubus who raped him never mentioning her father or who he was. Considering that both girls are the exact same age, it is hard to believe she wouldn't be his daughter as well, although it is possible. I can't say on the source material, just what the anime portrayed. And it never says definitively either way that I remember. Only dropping hints that she isn't. So it is a very fair assumption to make whether it is accurate to the source material or not. |
You appear to be assuming they are twins (and yet she brought only one child to Naoya for some reason). Thankfully, since the anime is based on a manga, there is more information to be had, and they definitely have different fathers. It also turns out the gestation period for a succubus is only 5 months instead of the 9 for a human, which made it a lot easier to have both girls the same age for many months each year. (I suspect that bit was a bit of retcon by the author).
Even without confirmation from the source material, you appear to be using lack of evidence as evidence.

I think you missed the fact that I said [likely] in my first post. I was never trying to state it as absolute fact. The point I was actually making stood whether it was fact or not. For someone who only watches the anime and never looks further into the source material, right or wrong, it is a definite conclusion they could draw making it feel all the more cringe worthy. Regardless of what the source material states, or whether it is true or not. I'm sorry if you thought I was stating it as fact.
And just as a final point. It is possible for twins to actually have different fathers. Them being twins wouldn't even be a guarantee they're both from the same father.

Oh wow, I can't believe I forgot about my favorite "Really 700 years old" characters:
Most of the cast from Makai Senki Disgaea Everyone important looks about 10. But they are angels and demons so....you know. xD
Mind you, I love this franchise to death.

Honestly the older I get I feel the same way & the same goes for Sakura from CCS.
As for Disgea that still doesn't bother me to much because it's that type of series to begin with. It's always had over the top sexual innuendos with whacked out humor & meta jokes taking a jab at the STRPG series. So I put that series to different standard if that makes any sense.

No, based on the manga it's pretty clear she's not his daughter.
Want to know how the manga ended?(anime had an alternate ending but manga continued long after) He accepted the marriage.
I wish someone had the balls to license it. Aaand be better handled than the Kodomo no Jikan affair.(DMP actually did manage to push out the first three digital omnibus volumes just last week, there's that at least...)

Is this a quote or did you do this? Very Nice. However, I'd question who decides which dreams "should never be".

I almost forgot about that show. I wasn’t sad the MTV adaptation was cancelled though, since I did not like it or, how they mucked with the characters and plot vs. the British version. Maybe it’s of worth in the discussion to also point out Skins is not a comedy. It’s a drama that takes on touchy issues like sexuality and drug use that get adults in a tizzy. By and far people that cause controversies like that are using children as a shield for their attempt at censorship or, worried about preserving the naïveté of young people watching. (Occasionally there is a contingent of adults involved in trying to eradicate things that feel they were harmed by some media exposure in their developing years, but that just reveals a lack of proper education and good relationships for care and support to me. Trying to eradicate something problematic in fiction isn’t going to fix young people growing up without the same now.) So most of these people forget or, just don’t care much that there are a lot of young people that share the experience of the characters. I don’t believe for a minute any of the organizations shouting about child porn over the North American Skins actually were concerned about the working conditions of the actors.
Answerman wrote: | Also, you must remember that while many American teen films ostensibly take place in high school, almost nobody in those films actually is high school age. Most aren't even college age, they're in their mid- and late-20s. The actors playing the "jocks" and the love interests are clearly full-grown adults. |
Actors being older don’t always save from controversy either. Glee was a pretty good show that took time to deal with many issues people can face in adolescence. But, its cast was older. One thing people became upset by was a more adult school-themed photo shoot of a few of the actors in a men’s magazine. People claimed it was an underhanded way of getting away with sexual images suggestive of minors.

If there was more media about characters dealing with the intensely awful psychological after effects of sexual assault (at any age, but especially with young characters, the younger, and the closer the relationship of the assaulter, the worse the after effects are) I think there would be less complaining about media depictions sexualizing kids under 18 or depicting rape for comedy. The media landscape has never been balanced or fair, and it's hard to get people within any culture to have empathy for real life problems they don't have personally. I'm not saying sex comedies are wrong in and of themselves, I'm just sick and tired of how many there are, and how silly they are, and how few value consent and mutuality in relationships. I'm as sick of the latest harem, and I'm sick of Free---I don't care who it targets anymore. Once you've spent time with real, live people dealing with rape or childhood molestation, and realize how few people who've never had to deal with those things *understand* about the severity of those abuses on their victims, and realized that there are so few realistic depictions of those challenges, seeing the latest "let's pan the camera over the sexy kid" or "let's have a character "accidently" feel up another character for laughs" don't seem as sexy or as funny. Just frustrating.

IIs fortunate that we are talking about anime, were so many are made each season and if you tired of some genre or don't like the genre, you can move on and watch another kind of anime. There is no reason to be angry or sick if other anime genres are made in great quantities, because im sure your favorites are still made.
For me, i love this kinds of rom/com, harem, power fantasy, and they can make even more each season
I become tired some years ago of action shonen or anime that have lots of gore or are only violence, so most of anime i watch each season is rom/com, slice of life, harem, power fantasy and if is with fan-service, even better. Even so this season i only watch about 4.

I finally watched Kinds 1995 this week btw (mostly a drama, i know). Quite the movie and it even ended up with a NC-17, so you can easily get into troubled waters with such life action films too.. |
Shows like Family Guy and Big Mouth are doing it for shock value/comedy, not titillation. Very simple and flat styles. South Park did a whole episode about a Hooters parody called Raisins but it was elementary school girls. Would definately not fly as live-action, or more detailed, sexy animation (like anime). It's pretty different from a live-action sex comedy where they're obviously using a actresses sex appeal for titillation. Ecchi anime generally falls in the latter. Funny, but also sexy and meant for you to get off to.

Everyone!
It's sooo simple; Anime characters are stylized - they look different than us by default, to begin with. It all depends on the creators who can make them look more (unrealistically) sexy than actual people of that age are.
So, if anything, people should be more concerned about the fact others are attracted to an unrealisitc, drawn character. However, again, this is not wrong at all as our puny brains can be easily deceived and we don't have much control over what our animal nature is letting us to be turned on. Furthermore, Anime characters do not exist, so we cannot hurt ANYONE as long as we keep it private to us. And I'm sure that every mentally healthy person, who has an Anime crush, will still be able to get involved into a REAL relationship.

I don't think it's so much as "we're confused!" but more like if we are attracted to human traits, we are going to be attracted to those same traits in characters who are still humanoid.
Always thought it was stranger than outsiders think THAT'S strange "BUT IT'S A CARTOON!!"
Lol, you either get it or you don't.....
