Oh, wonderful, Martha Vist Carbine is still around. I hope she gets a colony dropped on her. Worst sister and aunt ever.

I admit, I hear Sawano, I got boners.
I'm gonna expect something good in November soon enough. And yay Audrey's back!

Meh, it's more very pretty animation and epic music in the service of an concept I can only feel aggressive apathy towards. The UC Gundam timeline just doesn't need any more series set in it (Except for maybe Crossbone but that will most likely never happen now.) It's gotten stale in its never-ending Zeon conflicts which Unicorn promised to end once and for all and honestly what is the point anymore besides selling new model kits and pandering to the old-school Gundam fans? We already know how it ends with F91 and Victory and then with G-Reco and Turn A thousands of years later. All this really is in the end is well produced filler.

I liked Gundam as a kid, but now that I'm an adult and know a lot about politics, I'm in love with Gundam. I think that's the thing about the Universal Century storyline, it's not as action-packed as other stories and it can be pretty politically dense. I happen to love that however, because they do an amazing job of making this crazy sci-fi setting so realistic with its human stories and grounded politics. Gundam Unicorn also gave us a whopper of a twist at the end which I could actually see happening in the world of Gundam's politics. It's just so biting and clever, but most of all, it's a hard-hitting study of humanity's faults and triumphs.

I'm sorry but that's nonsense. What hard hitting politics? Does it talk in-depth about about the changes in the social-economic conditions that affect Earth and the space colonies after countless wars? The plight of minorities? Taxes? Who is running for reelection in the Federation Government this year? Stop polluting the Earth and maybe let the colonies have their independence is about as deep as it gets. As for being realistic.... Newtype powers doing anything the plot demands them to, mecha with cool but utterly ridiculous designs that could never function in real life and contrived melodramatic solutions (Let's have a Romano and Juliet style romance in our gritty war drama!) deeply undermined that claim most of the time.

I'm happy to know that I'm not the only person who feels aroused by that video.
Looks like this series really will be adapting Harutoshi Fukui's Phoenix Hunt novel. (Was the Narrative Gundam featured in that novel? This MS is entirely new, right?)

Nah don't worry they will jump soon into the non zeon / fede conflict. Because the next big badies are the Jupiter Empire that Crossbone Gundam just brushed we don't know how they supported The Titans, Axis and even the Zanscare Empire. And we also need to see the fall of Anaheim Electronics and the rise of the Strategic Naval Research Institute, or called shortly SNRI.

Should I watch Unicorn, then, before this comes out? I never got around to it before.
Either way, with Junya Enoki voicing the main character, I am definitely down for this. I'm glad he's picking up more roles. The animation looks great, too, and I am always ready for another soundtrack by Sawano.

Ehhhhhhh maybe... Unicorn has amazing mech porn but a really dumb story and main character, with one of the dumbest ending around. But one of the long running joke about unicorn is that it's completely irrelevant outside of it's own story, with none of the story that happen after it ever mentioning it. At the same time this one seems to be more of a direct sequel so it might actually be important (but again, the story is order stupider than anything you can imagine, so the less you know the better).
Anyway, all I care is I might get a MG Gustav Carl, that enough justify this show existence.

I second that. The main character lacks agency and the reveal at the end is dissapointing. Beautiful animation tho. I bought the bluray because the mechanical animation is glorious.

As someone with an SD Gustav Carl on the shelf nearest to me right now, I hope you get what you want.

Since this deals with the aftermath of Unicorn, I personally think you should. But Unicorn's story might be hard to get into if you're unfamiliar with the nuances of the Universal Century timeline. (Thus, the reaction of the people above.)

I’ve seen Wing, SEED/Destiny/Stargazer, OO (mostly), IBO (mostly) and a smattering of 08th MS Team, so I’m not sure where that would leave me in relation to the UC stuf. Eventually I want to watch all the gundams, but I’ve got huge backlog to get through first.

08th MS Team is the only UC show you have seen. The others are totally unrelated. As far as UC is concerned it's like they never happen.
