What is missing from this part of the article? It looks like something got cut on accident

Quote:
Under the 'Viridian Collection' label, Funimation will begin a repricing of many of their most well-known series. Discount-priced thinkpack box sets of Gunslinger Girl and Spiral are already available, and these will be joined by Kiddy Grade, Trinity Blood and Basilisk, as well as many others, in 2008. Funimation's other upcoming initiative is "Foreign Exchange",

One Piece movie 8 is also scheduled for February 19, and will be shown in selected theaters.

And it looks like something got accidentally added in here:
Quote:
The first two that are scheduled are the History of Trunks and Bardock: Father of Goku specials. These will be brought out in February as one collector's set, with special tin packaging Burst Angel OVA: Enough extras for 110 minutes of total content DBZ: History of Trunks, Bardock: Father of Goku TV specials: uncut package, digital remastering, collectible tin packaging.
Rats, I was hoping to hear of an Ouran date or new series coming out of Funimation, but that'll have to wait for another time. Hopefully the iTunes stuff continues to be successful.

At first I was so surprise they license that one so fast...

Now, I am surprise that they take so long to announce a date.

I'm pretty sure FUNimation Productions, became FUNimation Entertainment when they were bought by Navarre a long while back.

So does that part about the Burst Angel OVA have relevance to the article? And are they going to actually pretend the extras are content? I'm one of the few who actually likes Burst Angel, so I'm looking forward to finally getting the OVA (and still hoping for the manga). However, not being an extras person, I really hope they don't jack up the price on the concept that extras count as content.

I'll agree there, most of the time extras are utter crap and I don't even bother watching them.

Oh my God..I can watch the intro WITHOUT WORDS ON IT!!! I've got to see that!

Image galleries? I've just watched the show...I already know what the images are, sketched drawings of the characters or what amount to still screenshots from the episode...why bother, seriously it's what, a 30 second flick through them and never look again.

Interviews with the VA's...why do I care what you think about the character? You've either done a job job acting and I'm glad or you've done a bad job and I'm pissed either way you telling me WHY you did it in a way that pissed me off wont make me find it better nor will you telling me why you did it well make me any happier...

Interviews with the animators, directors and the like...potentially interesting but most of the time are exceptionally dull and I can't be bothered to sit through them.

Trailers for the show I just bought or TV spots for it...again what does that achieve? I've either already seen them and they convinced me to buy it or I have bought it regardless of them. The only trailers worth having are for more series by the company...often the DVD contains 2 trailers for other series/movies...I want more than that drop the other crap and give me 4-5 and of course allow me to skip through them.

The only extras I actually care about are ones like the AzuDai inserts, short extra animated bits (again like the AzuDai a Short Movie extra) or ones that explain historical/cultural/etc context in a direct manner like the ones on the Negima DVD's...having the director explain it to me in a convoluted, drawn out, often funny only to the interviewee/er interview is a waste of time.

God damn I hate extra's being a price point...

" release of Aquarion. Joining several other North American anime companies in experimenting with new packaging and price points, Funimation will bring out the entire 26-episode Aquarion series in two DVD sets, rather than the usual five to seven DVDs carrying around five episodes each."

Looks good didn't realize anyone had this one, but looks like funi is trying the same thing as viz.

Considering that around 80% of the fanbase has probably already seen the series by fansub I can't see how the compaints about 'not being able to test the waters first' can work...I know they've yet to come but really anyone who's followed the process of anime companies releasing things and the subsequent debate knows it is coming or ha crossed minds...

I think this is a good idea, as long as the entire series costs less, not much but a notable amount, than the same release as individuals then I think this is a good way of releasing the titles.

The DVD release for the One Piece movie is also scheduled for February 19 as well. On the same day, the Tsubasa and xxxHOLiC movies will come out too, packaged together on the same DVD as a "CLAMP Double Feature."

Yay! Anime smile

That's pretty awesome, though that's really strange that they would release the Xxxholic movie without having any of the Xxxholic DVDs out yet. Sure, Tsubasa fans will be able to recognize a few of the characters, but it still seems kind of strange.

I actually got my question answered when I went to BB tonight. I didn't realize the OVA was actually out. So the bulk of that 110 minutes of extras is actually all the fight scenes from each episode strung together into one long montage. Talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel desperate. The rest of it is promos for the tv series and OVA. There's one possibly interesting extra that involves Jo, but I'm sure it's the shortest thing on the disc.

And, yes, they did use the "extras" as an excuse to jack up the price. Twenty bucks after discount for 25 minutes worth of content. Major fail here, Funimation. Perhaps I can go find it on-line and illegally download it while I wait for it to hit the TRSI bargain bin for $10 or less, cause that's all it's really worth (though I would have paid $15 if they had just been honest and hadn't ticked me off with their "110 minutes of extras!").
