So that settles the debate about whether Lelouch really died or not at the end of R2. He did indeed. And now he's coming back from the dead...

Wth no it doesn't mean that at all. He was already confirmed alive, it probably is just referring to the Resurrection of the series or some new plot movement.

Never. A lot of people recall an extended ending that, extremely briefly, showed the driver of C.C.'s carriage and it appeared to be Lelouch. The thing is that there's practically no evidence to suggest that that scene exists or that it wasn't a fan-edit that made the rounds. The ending, as is, can be interpreted one of two ways: Either he died and C.C. is really just talking to herself, or he did fake his death and is the carriage driver. Those are the only two possibilities. And the subtitle of R3 seems to more or less confirm that he is in fact dead. Either that or it has some other meaning, as I don't understand the point of the "Re;" in "Re;surrection" when they could have just said "Resurrection." So there might be some hidden meaning there, I don't know.

It is a fan edit, stop bringing that shit up. You can totally see the amateurish animation in that scene and something like that would be brought up if it was official. So yeah, as far as we know Lelouch is dead unless the new series retcons this.

Okay, so I didn't miss anything at all. I've rewatched this series a couple of times and have seen that so-called extended ending, but I never really believed in it. Thanks for the confirmation guys!

Given that the precise language previously used by Sunrise staff to talk about the upcoming sequel was "Next Project" or Fukkatsu no Lelouch (Lelouch of the Resurrection) and that this news article refers to what the Code Geass Twitter account has posted, which has just happened to coincide with a teaser made right after the rerun of Code Geass R2 on Japanese TV where they used the phrase "Next Stage: Re;surrection"...this may not necessarily be the title of the project as a whole, but specifically the title of the first episode.

Code Geass episodes, if some of you might recall, were actually known as "Stages" during season one and "Turns" during R2. Furthermore, the title of the last episode of R2 was "Re;" and that does seem relevant enough. Of course, this is assuming that the sequel will be on TV.

The whole resurrection thing could just be a metaphor for Lelouch re-establishing his name and/power. Also doesnt Lelouch have a god complex? It's been forever since I've seen the series, but from what I remember he has some sort of god complex going on, so I wouldn't be surprised if there was some kind of metaphorical allegory or comparison to the resurrection of Jesus. Lelouch is quite the eccentric after all.

Well Code Geass Akito the Exile did create a lot of questions.

Like who the floating skull head is? Or the black haired looking C.C.?
Maybe Code Geass R3 will answer that.

They are hoping this goes unnoticed, I anticipate. That is why the equally overused 'Re' prefix is in full force here.

I feel like the subtitle’s less straight up “resurrection” and more like it’s a play on “insurrection”. An insurrection is a violent uprising against authority, and the “re;surrection” is Lelouch taking that authority back.
