That's a bummer. I haven't read the manga, but I've watched the two seasons of the anime that have been produced. I think it's an exceptionally well told story. It's probably my favorite sports anime. I held out hope that more seasons would eventually be made, but that seems incredibly unlikely now. I'll have to seek out some English translations of the manga. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like there are any official releases.

Even if the story comes to a premature end, I trust in the author's ability to craft something worthwhile, even if it's just a "the journey continues" type ending.

Well, I've kinda read the raws until the cancellation and the end is quite abrupt in a sense. The story had always had its own rhythm and you can really feel that the author had more to tell but couldn't.

How can quality works like this get cancelled while Fuuka truckrolls on? Ugh, this is terrible news.

Ouch! In a sense, WSM was more brutal than WSJ in this issue. How can they just cancel a manga series of ten years with consistent quality?

I feel bad. I am not a constant reader of this manga, but I do read when I can and I've seen the two seasons of anime. It's criminally underrated. Crying or Very sad

Sadly, It's all about popularity, not quality.

From the beginning, I had a feeling that this series would end up like this. Its quality is really solid, despite not having a particular 'pop factor' that other successful sports series have.

Still, I think getting serialized for 10 years is still a good run. The series went on far longer than I expected (I thought it'd end once they've settled Ei-kun and Natsu's relationship, but it turns out they went far beyond that).

I'm a bit sad, but things could've been worse.

If the series was cancelled after only 10-12 volumes, I think your statement would carry more weight. However, "Baby Steps" rolled on long enough to cover almost 50 volumes. It was also popular enough to get 2 25-episode anime adaptations. Also, the manga-ka still has life+70 before both the Japanese and American copyrights run out.
