Can’t say I blame them. Boudica just looks averagely drawn compared to a lot of the other artists’ drawings.

Um, he designed both characters, of course they would look similar. This is not anything new. What a non issue.

Boudica's face was the best looking part of her card so I don't mind it being copied. Honestly I think it's fine when the artist is copying their own works instead of stealing some one else's.

When you remove their hair, most of Akamatsu-sensei's characters look alike. Other manga-ka have had similar issues as well. So it doesn't surprise me that Takao-sensei's card art looks similar.

I honestly don't mind him tracing his own art or how bland the art compared to the other character CGs made by other artists or how he can only draw one face. However, the clothing design is pretty much copied from images that can be googled easily. here is the original clothing design. Even the color and pattern are strikingly similar.

That's what puzzles me with this 'non-story'. If this elicited such a reaction, on what scale would Aoi Nishimata's crime count?... Confused

That is what I was going to post. How can fans be so pissed about similar faces when saberface is a running joke.

Honestly, what I'm annoyed with artwork for Parvati is that it doesn't look anything like Sakura.

Having the same character design for the face is one thing, both sets of illustrations sharing the exact same perspective and body shape is kind of pathetic. It's not that the characters have similar looking faces but rather that they eyes and nose look practically copied and pasted and literally just drawing different clothes over the same torso.

Wait fans were upset that Boudica and Parvati/Sakura have the same face but none were mad of Saberface Arcueid?

Takao's art already pales in comparison to all of the other artists for FGO, so when the super-hyped Sakura Servant debuted with a bland, non-Sakura face, a stock pose, and an outfit ripped straight from Google Images, people were livid. Does that justify flaming Takao and cracking jokes about his deceased father? Absolutely not. However, he still did a terrible job. Say what you will about Takeuchi, but at least Takeuchi's an actually good artist.

I believe people are complaining more about Boudica's overall design being almost copy/pasted on Parvati, it's not only the face but things like her pose and breasts too.

For example:

Literally every illustrator only changes the hairstyle on their characters, complaining about "sameface" is stupid because you could say that the face is each illustrator's trademark. Had Takao used a different pose nobody would complain. Just see how many Artorias are in FGO, they all look the same but their poses and expressions are all different.

Yeah, I think one of the things that led to the most complaints about the sameface is the fact that Parvati was supposed to be another demi-Servant goddess occupying the body of Sakura ala what happened with Zhuge Liang and Waver or spoiler[Ishtar and Rin]. However, the art really doesn't have a lick of Sakura in it, leading to the backlash.

Doesn't excuse the amount of shit the artist got over Twitter though, especially bringing his recently deceased father into it and all that.

Upon closer observation, I could tell that Boudica and Parvati's body appearances are literally identical to one another. While I agree that Aotsuki-san should have tried a bit harder to make them different, some of the anger towards him was a bit overblown.

The problem, as I understand, is not style similarity, but traced art. People were waiting for Parvati/Sakura for 2 years, yet she's got such treatment - I think that producers who approved this art are to blame, not artist. He (she?) had done good job with Jaguar man art.

The problem not the same face, but traced art. While they face are similar, they got different poses/facial expression etc. Each one of them are separate art and doesn't copy others.

I'm not a Sakura fan (my heart belongs to Rin), but still I think that such treatment is unacceptable to lead character of VN and new movies. Maybe we would get 5* caster parvati in near future with great art, who knows.

Too bad that there was such backlash on artist, while he wasn't to blame but the producer that said "Oh, it's good. Let's go with this art". Clients usually are demand stupid edits, or give artists horrible reference, or ask them to fix something that looks good into trash. So, it's wrong to blame artist for end result.
