They didn't bring back the original VA? The dub for the previews adaptation was a Texas based production. Sure it wasn't anything to write home about, but Kinos VA did a good job.

Maybe the original VA retired or had some other reason why she couldn't reprise the role.

The original Kino retired, and it was originally dubbed in Houston, while this is being dubbed in Dallas. Texas is a big state and the original Japanese decided to recast so I guess Funi decided it wasn’t worth the effort.

As much as I would like to have the original cast back, I understand Kelli Cousins being no longer in the VA scene so that makes sense. As for Cynthia Martinez, as much as I'm the few people that like her and prefer her Lina Inverse, I can get behind having an actual guy voicing Hermes, see how that rolls.
Come to think, I should probably watch the original Japanese version for comparisons sake.

Man, between this, Konohana Kitan, and King's Game. Lindsey Siedel sure is getting work this season. Good for her, I always like hearing her voice in shows.

I'm guessing it means she has returned from Tennessee if she is able to take on multiple simuldubs.

See, I knew someone would complain about Kelli Cousins being recast.
Do you know where Kelli Cousins is right now? I sure as hell don't. She's long retired from voice acting and she's been off the radar for over a decade. How would Funimation even go about contacting her?
As for Hermes, Martinez was an oddball casting choice in the first place so I can't exactly say I'm disappointed. Maybe they could get Clint Bickham back as Shizu and if they really wanted to I think they'd probably be able to bring back Chris Patton. But even if that doesn't happen, this is one circumstance where I really can't blame Funi for not bothering.
Anyway, looking forward to hearing it.

She's lived in Chicago for over 10 years. On 9/21/2017, I sent her this Facebook PM: "announcement to dub the series. I told her animenewsnetwork.com/news/2017-09-21/funimation-to-dub-the-ancient-magus-bride-dies-irae-kino-journey-juni-taisen-urahara-anime/.121696
I get that you might not be voicing Kino again, but some people in the comments section really enjoyed your role as her."

I'm not sure if I'd feel comfortable being tracked on Facebook to such an extent.
Looking back I remember much of the dub was done by a limited number of voice actors, many of whom played multiple characters. Wasn't a big priority on ADV Films production plate at the time.

They must be trying to use her as much as they can before she goes back.

@prime_pm: I understand your statement from a "feeling stalked or harassed" standpoint, but sometimes social media is the only way to contact someone without looking up their e-mail or phone.

Just got back from watching episode 1, and I really liked it. Kino's voice was of course good, the only voice that had me worried was Hermes. He sounded nothing like Hermes in season 1. I mean the novel says Hermes spoke with the voice of a young boy, but I don't know. I kinda like the new approach.

Aww, I really loved Martinez's Hermes, it sounded more accurate to the book's description of his voice (like a whiny kid). I wish they would have at least gotten another woman to voice him.

Maybe that's the point. They want their privacy.
