With voice acting, there is the possibility that Petrea Buchard may have lost her Ryoko voice since our voices do change as we get older like Aaron Dismuke can't be Alphonse anymore even if he is much younger actor and that was more of just a him becoming an adult with his voice maturing when Brotherhood came out.

I think I did. The problem with backing these things is forgetting about 'em by the time the work is done. |

Is it really that hard for Funimation to cover whatever expenses necessary for their respective VAs? I mean, now that Funimation is owned by Sony, couldn't they just borrow some money from them since they're a much bigger branch?
I don't know if this would help (and please excuse me since this is off topic), but if there were high-speed (or even better hyperloop) rails built between LA and Texas, would that spare them the cost or trouble of traveling by plane in the least bit? P.S.: No one has mentioned Patrick Seitz (an LA actor) flying over to Texas to do voice work for Funimation. |

He writes on occasion too. He might have a home studio as well so he doesn't have to travel as much. |

That purchase still hasn't happened yet, and I believe still needs to get approval from the federal government. Anime, especially dubbed anime, gets by on thing margins so covering expenses isn't always an option. And while it is conceivable Sony could help with that, I doubt that Sony would want buy a business only to turn around and increase operating costs when it doesn't have to do so. |

Interesting. I wonder if that means she didn't want to do the role anymore and no amount of persuasion and negotiation would've convinced her otherwise.
I sometimes find myself driving for 4 hours or more myself, but those tend to be frustrating drives because usually it's due to heavy traffic congestion. (And then there's the very concept of driving to get to some routine place, like work or school, which can be an alien concept to people who have lived their lives in small communities where they never needed to go more than a kilometer or two.)
Sony is not a bank. FUNimation can't just simply borrow or ask for money from Sony unless they know it'll increase sales by enough for it to be profitable, if the relationship is even that close. They may just be owned in the sense that part of the profits go to Sony with no further interaction. (Then again, as Greed1914 points out, the deal hasn't been finalized yet.) And frankly, Character A being voiced by Actor Y instead of Actor X isn't really a dealbreaker for that many people. As for rail travel, North America is just too spread out for it to be financially viable. It'd be an extremely expensive project to set up (and I'm pretty impressed the US Interstate system even exists), and each trip would be very expensive too due to the large distances covered. It works in New England and in Europe due to their high population densities. You also get a lot of opposition any time a new rail system goes into serious consideration. (The California High Speed Rail, as it's currently planned, is near unrecognizable from when it began due to complaints from various communities, for instance.) |

She still seems to like the character though. She narrated Did You Know Anime's Tenchi Muyo video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aD9cMvxkOHY And she seems to appreciate seeing Tenchi Muyo stuff on her Twitter page. She retweets some fanart or posts of Tenchi merch people find. |

Last week (Thurs. or Fri. I think), I asked David Wald on his FB page why he just doesn't use SourceConnect or something like that to record his Funi roles since he lives in Houston. He said something to the effect of the quality wouldn't be as good as it would be in person.

Maybe there won't be a rail built between California and Texas but I know that Texas is nonetheless planning to built its own high speed rail between Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston. Once it's completed and ready for service, it should be more convenient than going on the road or by air. I wouldn't be surprised if VAs use it to travel back and forth to record voice work for Funimation and Sentai. And anyone who is against the idea of a high speed rail are just stubborn in my opinion. |

This reminds me of the days when ADV used to exact same stable of actors for everything they did.
Of course, they did a good job, so it wasn't a big deal, but it did get kinda repetitive after awhile. |

I've heard about that Texan high speed rail project. Is it also getting torn to shreds by the NIMBYs? (Certainly, just like with California, the people of Texas could benefit from more efficient, faster transportation between its major cities, and the minor ones too, due to the sheer distance between them.) |

NIMBYism doesn't really apply to the Texas project: it's a private concern that intends to invoke an old law granting railroads the power of eminent domain, completely sidestepping the problem. Needless to say, it's being fought tooth and nail by those that would be affected; so far they've managed to ensure not a single dime of state money will go to the project and get at least one injunction questioning their claim of eminent domain power. Unless they manage to get a definitive declaration of that power and pull a boatload of cash out of their asses, it's pretty much all over but the crying.

Believe it or not, the state of Texas is actually getting help from investors and train specialists from Japan to have their rail made since Japan is famous for inventing what's called the "Bullet Train" or "Shinkansen" first introduced in the 1960s. Ironic. Its like Texas is becoming more "Japanese" than previously imagined since its already doing well making business dubbing and selling anime in English there.

ADV never used the same stable of actors... even up to their end in 2008, they had a curious range of actors especially as leads. They did have several different groupings over their 10-15 years... I'm not sure how much those first five should count though... but nothing on Funimation's level; You'd think they'd recast either Piccolo or Vegeta... or both... by now but it's not like the characters talk to each other that much. Sentai's dub casts though... all the ones past 2010... yeah, those are cast from the shallow end of the pool. They even seem to have designated people as leads and supports while the ADV policy seemed to be "Ok, who haven't we used as a lead yet? Nancy Novotny? Sure, why not?" Now that I think about it, it must have been intentional that none of the leads in Air the TV were used as the leads in Kanon... while Clannad not only broke that rule, it cast Luci Christian twice. |
