Whenever I looked up the manga or characters, they were always or usually referred with male pronouns, but I guess their genders were never specified in the first place, also when I read a little bit of the manga. Maybe they're genderless or their genders are up to interpretation?

They are genderless. I bought the actual plainted manga in English and they avoid using pronouns all together.

Any anime with a character named "Cinnabar" is definitely going to catch my attention. Now I'm thinking of Fireballs. Laughing

The gems are technically genderless, but are referred to as "he" and "older brothers" in the manga very clearly (and obviously purposefully). I'm not sure why the English version went so far as to remove those places where genders are specifically given, but unless ANN is getting the genders directly from the studio--which really concerns me as far as the adaptation is concerned--I think the pronouns should be changed for this article and subsequent ones. Here is proof regarding Cinnabar.

Doesn't look appealing to me so I'll have to pass on watching this.

after the success of Steven Universe, it only makes sense for the Sad Gay Space Rock genre to go international

Looks great, I hope Funiroll or Amazon get this, and not Netflix since they often go for CGI shows. I hope Netflix is done for the year.

I have been a huge fan of Steven Universe, if this is anywhere near as good as that I'll be happy.

Thank you all for your feedback regarding the gender pronouns of the characters. For now, we've edited the article to take out any gender references at all. To be clear, the anime's official website never used any gender pronouns in Japanese in the character descriptions.
